[RM2K3] Testers needed for Multiplayer ABS game

I need a second person to help test out the new multiplayer features I've added. It will at least help me find bugs, and if you give feedback on the general feel of the ABS that will help too.

-You will need Parsec so I can share my screen and you can control P2.
-It's technically possible to play with the keyboard, but I would prefer someone that has a controller. I can send Joy2key which has the button config profiles already set up for P1 and P2, or you set up your own program.
(Did you know Playstation controllers can work on Windows?)
-Voice chat on Discord preferred.

While still fairly early in the process, P2 has a lot to do and it's quickly growing. Attacking, interacting with objects and NPCs, opening and using the main menu.

Here's a short clip of what it's like:

I need all the help I can get so if you can spare even just 1 hour it would be useful. 24/7 availability. I can make time around your schedule/time zone.

PM if interested.

[RM2K3] Secondary input keys?

The keys H, J, K, L move the hero. C, V, B, N, M act like pressing X.

Is there a way to prevent this so I can define customs actions to those keys?

[GM] Have you ever wanted to switch from RPG Maker to Gamemaker?

-You may have spent years with RM and want a change.
-Maybe even a new dev looking for a new engine.
-To anybody that has struggled with the limits of RM for non-RPG/RPG-lite games.

I offer my experience in making the switch over to GM, using the Drag n' Drop interface. I can explain how the engine works, in a way that relates to how things work in RM. Something I wish I had. I ended up reading nearly the entire help file with lots of trial and error afterwards.

If you just want someone to show you the ropes, that's fine too.

The Drag n' Drop (DnD) makes it function just like RM event code. With full access to all the more complicated GML code snippets. You drag a block, type in some code, and nest it with the rest of your DnD code blocks. It's like using the Run Script in RM, but slightly more customized.

Here is something I made recently in about 2 hours:

https://youtu.be/A-mDV6n_9ec

It's really surprising how easy it is once you can relate commands to how it was done in RM. With that basic knowledge you can create complex things with little code. Just don't come in expecting easy RPGs. That's way hard.

Ultimately I only want to help others. Feel free to take the knowledge and run. No quid pro quo here. But if anybody would also like to collaborate on a GM game, that would be great. Something small and action-y. A beat-em-up maybe? or platformer.

Feel free to message me here, then move to something like Discord. You can download the free version of Gamemaker Studio 2 to follow along.

However, while the Trial Licence gives you a nearly fully-functional version of GameMaker Studio 2 to use, it does have the following limitations:

The Trial Licence is only valid for 30 days from when you activate your YoYo Account.
The Trial Licence does not permit you to create final executables, nor does it permit you to test using the higher-performance YoYo Compiler ("YYC"). *you can still test the normal performance way*
You must be on the current public version of GMS2 in order to use your licence.
You cannot create a Marketplace Publisher account and sell your own assets, but you can use the Marketplace to obtain paid/free assets sold by others.

Other than those restrictions, the Trial Licence grants you full access to GameMaker Studio 2, with no limits on resource usage within your projects.

If you decide to buy is like 30$/year, 100$/life (USD). More expensive than most RM's but you are getting way more functionality. I bought a 1 year license. If after 1 year you decide to extend, it's 33% off. They just recently came out with a new version with bug fixes, quality of life improvements, and actual new code blocks in DnD.

[RMVX ACE] Showing as tiles instead of as pictures

I'm showing a picture on screen and it's lined up with the chipset, but when the map scrolls a bit the picture stays in place while the map moves. I'm not seeing any obvious options like 2k3 had where you can make the picture scroll with the map so it stays in allignment. Am I missing something? Please tell me this isn't a huge flaw in Ace. I'm sick of coming across those...

[RMVX ACE] Resolutions and full screen

I'm delving into Ace for the first time so I'm curious about general information on resolutions and full screen.

First, I thought I was stuck in 544x416 but found out I can bump it up to 640x480. Which seems much better.

Is that the limit?
Is that common? Or do most games keep the default?
Or perhaps use another? One that better fits tiles/sprites/full screen?

Because that leads me to my next concern, full screen seems blurry at both resolutions I tried.

Is this normal?
Is it maybe just my computer/monitor/gfx card?

I don't play many newer RM games, so I don't even have any personal experience playing Ace games.

Is there some kind of method, like a script, that can make the graphics crisp in full screen?
Does changing the Windows resolution have any effect?
Is there anything I can do about it? Or is it an accepted downside, like 256 colors in 2k3?

IP/Copyright question about computer generated music

For those not familiar, there are apps that can take a users voice and turn it into music. The most interesting one I've seen so far, and the one that led me down this path is Voice Band(only on iPhone :/)

There doesn't seem to be any exact equivilent for Android, but I did find HumOn. You hum some notes and it music-ifies that, but also throws in music around it. Making a whole song right away.

So I was thinking, if I make a song using this do I have the rights to use it in a game? I was looking at the terms of use and found this paragraph.

(Ownership of Rights)

The Services, websites, applications, software and all other information and materials provided by the Company to Users in relation to the Services shall be proprietary and patent rights, copyrights and other intellectual property rights owned by the Company.

Intellectual property rights of the User-generated Material shall be owned by the User. Provided that, however, the Company shall have a right to freely use the User-generated Material for non-commercial purpose without the User’s consent and for commercial purpose with the User’s consent.

The User may, to the extent expressly permitted by this agreement, use the information and materials provided by the Company, and the User shall not infringe on the intellectual property rights of the Company in connection with the use of the Services.

I don't know too much about this stuff, but since some of you folks seem to have a better handle on this stuff, can anyone confirm that this line does in fact mean when I make a song I own it? And can use it as I wish in games? Would I need to credit the app, do you think?

Also, if anyone knows of any other music generating programs please share. I have used Wolframtones in the past for one of my projects. http://tones.wolfram.com/generate. I'm not too sure of the copyright issues there but it's all pretty cool stuff imo.

Looking to buy Gamemaker as cheap as possible

Does anybody know where I might find discounts on Gamemaker Studio 2?

I can buy it from the official site for 99$, or on Steam for an extra 10 bucks, but I'm wondering if deals like Humble Bundle come up for software like this.

Are there any other popular "things" that provide discounts on software like this?

PM email notifications

Is there a reason I get emails 10 minutes after receiving a PM? Couldn't that be shorter like 2 minutes? 10 minutes makes back and forths difficult without constantly checking the site.

[SMBX] Using warps to move to other maps

I've got a Door style warp.

I'm laying down an Entrance. Locked, Yes.

In the Warp To Level box I put in "Level 2". I also tried "Level 2.lvl". The exact spelling of the file.

In the box below that I've tried Normal Starting point and Warp 1. Creating a warp spot in Level 2.

No matter what I do it keeps warping to the very beginning of the game. Can anybody tell me why?

Characters
The first one is our main. Followed by some other characters we like to use in no particular order.

Rules
Our preference for rules. First is stages, then items, then match type. There are a few categories for each.

Stages
  • All - No preference.
  • Omega only - Every stage pick should be the Omega version. No exceptions. Not even FD.
  • Tournament only - Generally in tournaments this includes neutral stages with no dangerous gimmicks. Since the game is new I'm going to make this list myself. If anybody sees legit tourny stage list, let me know. These are non-Omega version. No exceptions. Even FD xD
  • Battlefield, Final Destination, Mario Galaxy, Delfino Plaza, Luigi's Mansion, Congo Jungle, Yoshi's Island, Lylat Cruise, Castle Seige, Skyworld, Halberd, Smashville, Boxing Ring, Pilot Wings, Dunk Hunt, Wii Fit... (I'm not entirely familiar with all the stages, so there may be a few more)
  • Gimmicks only - All those wacky stages that end up killing you half the time. I don't expect anybody to pick this category, but I'm throwing it in for the sake of completion.
  • Omega/Tourny - You like the stages in the Tournament category but you also like to play on the occasional Omega level for the ambiance. Mix it up, don't do too many of a single category in a row.
  • Omega/Gimmick - You prefer Omegas, but like a wacky gimmick once and a while.
  • Tourny/Gimmick - You prefer Tournament stages, but like a wacky gimmick sometimes.

Items
  • None - Real men play with no items.
  • All(1-5) - You like all items on with varying levels of drop rates.
  • Some(1-5) - You like a select few items on with varying levels of drop rates.

Match type
  • Stock(2-5+) - This is the standard for all tournaments and imo the best way to play. Tournaments are 4 stock fights. 2 or 3 is good for quick matches when you want to change characters a lot and 5+ are good when you don't plan on switching your character. You'll want to pick 4 unless you and your friends are used to playing a different number and you'd like to keep it that way. I'm flexible but my main goal is to pick tournament rules so that I'm practiced when I eventually go to my local tournaments.
  • Time(2-x) - You like timed matches with varying time limits. The online games force 2 minutes and I'm not sure how high some people like to go with that since I never play that mode. After playing some online matches I can see how different a fight it is when you play timed matches. So I'm warming up to them a bit.
  • Other - Not sure why you would prefer any other type, but feel free to pick it. All of these preferences aren't exclusive, so even if you prefer stock I'm sure a coin battle could happen on occasion.

We can do some matchmaking here by posting times that we are going to play.

It would be a good idea for everyone to subscribe to this thread so you don't miss any fight requests!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the thread to talk about all things Smash Wii U. If you want to discuss the DS version make your own topic!

I'll get things started: What a stupid name for the game. They should have followed suit with Melee, Brawl, ???.

Who are you favorite characters? Stages? What features do you enjoy?

I personally love the Omega stage option. I've played at the tournament level and stage choice is everything. I wonder how that is going to play out in tourneys. Will you be able to pick any omega? Or will they stick to a non-omega shit list. There's always so few stages suitable for competitive play and this game is no different.

I love boxing and Hajime no Ippo, so I have to get good with Little Mac. I like his speed but he has terrible range, no projectile, and his recovery is the worst I've ever seen. But I found Rosalina surpringly awesome so I may take her up. Of course my long time main has been Bluigi. I still haven't had a chance to play every character but those are my first impressions.

I don't know how I feel about 8 player smash. It's a little too much. The larger stages help but ehhhhh I won't be doing that much.

I was kind of dissapointed that there was no story mode or equivalent. Yeah, there's lots to do, but it all seems kind of limited. It won't take long to finish it all and then all that's left is Smash. But I guess that's the main reason why we play. At least things like classic mode and all-star are 2p, so I can go through it all with my friend instead of going over to find everything completed already.
