Diplomacy

Diplomacy is a strategic board game created by Allan B. Calhamer in 1954 and released commercially in 1959. Its main distinctions from most board wargames are its negotiation phases (players spend much of their time forming and betraying alliances with other players) and the complete absence of luck. Set in Europe just before the beginning of World War I , Diplomacy is played by seven players, each controlling the armed forces of a major European Power. Each player aims to move his or her few starting units - and defeat those of others - to win possession of a majority of strategic cities and provinces marked as "supply centers" on the map; these supply centers allow players who control them to produce more units. -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diplomacy_(game)

Game Information:

The turn schedule will be as follows:

Spring Movement - 3 days
Spring Retreat - 1 day (if necessary)
Fall Movement - 3 days
Fall Retreat - 1 day (if necessary)
Winter Adjustment - 1 day (if necessary, but it usually is)

Unlike Mafia, turns will not end just because everyone submits their orders. Everyone has the entire time period to submit, to allow for changing orders.

HOW TO PLAY:

Q: Wait, what? The game started? What do I do?!
While waiting for the turn to end, it is your job to PRIVATELY communicate with the other players (it's up to you who you want to talk to, but it's generally a good idea to talk to everyone), try to strike some deals about letting each other take territories, helping each other, threatening, etc. It's okay to post in the thread, but obviously anything you do will be highly suspect and should only be reserved for when you want to send a communication to everyone.

Don't just submit your moves and be done with it -- the game is completely pointless that way and you'll ruin everyone else's game as well.

Q: I don't know the actual game rules!
There are virtually no rules in the communication part of the game. However, the actual board game part is somewhat compliated.

You can read the tutorial I wrote here:
http://thrasher.ath.cx/diplotut/

Q: How do I submit my orders?
Before the deadline, just PM them to me, and say what you want to do. I'm going to assume you read my tutorial and know the four order types (move, hold, support, and convoy). Well, just form your PM like this:

- Tri holds.
- Boh moves to Sil.
- War supports Boh to Sil.
- Ion convoys Gre to Tun.

It's okay if you don't follow this exactly -- as long as your orders aren't ambiguous.

If you change your mind before the deadline comes, you can simply PM me again with your new order set. I will only use your last PM before the deadline, so make sure you include EVERY order again.

Q: I'm still confused!
Ask me a question! Here, in a PM, email, or on IRC (irc.dynastynet.org #rpgmaker.net, as Thrasher). If it's a public "how to play" question, it would be best to ask it here, as it's likely someone else is wondering the same thing.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy the game, even when you get stabbed (and don't worry -- you will.)
