Community Spotlight Interview: Something Classic

So freaking pumped for this to come out. Glad my name is on the list of folks who pledged. Although I gave enough to get the betas, I didn't want to spoil myself.

RMN Snews - Issue #23

Monetization was always this immense thing I thought about here. To do things, you need money and resources. It's really not like the "good 'ol days" of RPG Maker where new sites were popping up all the time with different styles and such.

The world's very big now.

The store going defunct is too bad but also not surprising. With the rise of Steam software, Degica is definitely having grand success there. What role does RMN then take?

And dude, 2014 fucking sucked for me too.

also if what F-G said counts as ad hominem i am fairly certain that "you ripped off fucking Frogger" counts as well

THATS WHAT MAKES IT FUNNY

Posting about this is constructive. The majority of the RM community is filled with talentless hacks and thieves. Trying to better it seems quite constructive in my mind.
Remember kids, recreating Metroid and remaking Lys games are a noble pursuits!
I agree. That is why I finished both of them and never said I wanted to pursue ideas of my own.

EDIT: Now for the serious reply. They were actually both QUITE noble efforts. The Metroid game taught me a lot about creating a sidescroller both from a design, management, and implementation aspect. If there was one game that really helped me progress in my abilities, it was that.

A lot of what I did for it will benefit others when fragments of MTR's engine is put into IGL for other people to use.

TFWi was in my younger years of really learning how to develop reusable engines and focusing on important pieces of development. It also had a lot of ideas I thought would be great for the game.

No, these games were not my original ideas. TFWi was a complete remake (with the creator's support and blessing) and MTR was a fan game. My strengths are not in the department of writing or story and never claimed them to be.

So yeah, they were quite noble. Also you ripped off fucking Frogger.

there's one thing you fail to mention, we are not making any profit out of it, therefore i don't see why it's a problem. if these games were being sold we might have a legitmiate issue here, but since it's not there is no problem and i don't give a damn if games are being plagarized or not as long as I enjoy them, you're just looking for something to moan about, I very much doubt the people who made those games really give a damn about these games, if they did we'd surely know about it why don't you post something constructive next time instead of just whining.

As has been stated before, the games being sold doesn't really stand up legally. DEFINITELY not legally.

There are a lot of authors of the source materials (whether they are games or books) that care a lot. A lot enough to stamp out even fan fiction.

Why Plagiarism Matters

Not all indie RPGs are free. "Indie" game just means it is not "signed" to a big publisher of some kind. Aveyond and Deadly Sin are two indie RPGs that spawned from the RM community.

Which witch hunt are you talking about? The one where his game was taken down for a little bit of time while he tweaked his description? Yeah, that never happens to anyone else.

Why Plagiarism Matters

Actually most of my comments were completely selfish and related to my business ventures. 8)

Why Plagiarism Matters

Well it was all a hypothetical situation, F-G. To clarify a bit more, I was working on a DS game and I am almost positive I would have ended up seeing games using the graphics I bought for it. That is worrisome. Yeah I realize that for games like FF6 it doesn't have quite the impact.
