I made this site and it's awesome. But I don't run it anymore. Now I'm just a plebe like you.

Favorite Gameplay Element

I think everyone has a favorite little thing they like to see in games. I like skill learning systems that are a mesh of generics and uniqueness between characters. FF9 was great in this aspect. Someone could equip an item and get two abilities from it. A different character could then get completely different abilities from the same item.

Non-RM Engines: What's stopping you?

Hoping to stir up some discussion on other engines. So, I put out the question: what is stopping you from using other engines that are not in the RM series? I have a few ideas.

  • Ease of use. RM really kicks the crap out of other engines when it comes to the "Map Test". That test being how long it will take someone to open the program, create a new map, and walk around on it. Most other engines fail this test miserably.
  • No starting point. RM gives you a complete game engine to work with. The others do not. While you are able to create basically any concept you want with other engines, there is a large amount of upfront costs to get there.

Feel free to discuss.

Feedback for new site genre of games

We have a few "games" here on the site that aren't really games at all. We've typically described them as "rm2kfics", but I don't think that accurately describes what they are.

Here are the ones we have right now:

They are currently placed in the Other genre, which goes against my nature of organizing everything. So, I'm looking for ideas on what to call a new genre these games are going to be set to. My current idea is "Visual Fiction", but let me know if you guys have other recommendations.

Two Hundred Members

Just wanted to waste some time and state that RPG Maker Network has hit over 101 members in approximately 8 days. Pretty good growth, and I hope they stick around.

EDIT:
We have now hit 206 members.

Updated Screenshot Viewer

Just wanted to inform everyone that the screenshot pages for games has been upgraded. You now have Previous and Next links so you can navigate through the whole gallery. Plus, if you click on the image it will zoom in. Ctrl clicking will zoom the image back out.

With this update, I'd ask everyone to only submit images in the game's natural resolution. It'll save you time and us bandwidth. Thank you.

Misao Entry Nominations Are Open!

I'm going to be switching the Misaos into the next phase after tonight. So that means you need to get your nominations in! Remember that a category must have two nominations to move into the next phase. If you see a category you like, make sure it was nominated twice!

EDIT (06/09/07)
Okay! The entry nomination phase has begun!

A Couple Things in the Works

Mixed with previously planned features and also user feedback, I've been working on a few features that should be coming fairly soonish.

  • Submission editing. You'll be able to edit all the details for your submissions.
  • Searching and filtering. The game list is showing the first signs of unwieldiness, so this should alleviate that. You'll be able to search for a game by engine, genre, and author.
  • Collections. You'll be able to add games to your own person Wishlist (for games you are anticipating) and games that are your favorite. Your favorite list will be limited to a certain amount, so that you can't say LOL EVERY GAME IS MY FAVORITE. As a developer, you'll be able to see how many people have your game in their collections.

If you guys have any other requests, please let me know.

Forum Rules

Welcome to the RPG Maker Network forums! Please follow the rules below.

  • Post accordingly and be descriptive about your topic subjects. Don't make subjects like "So I have a question..." and other vagueness.
  • No senseless flaming, insults, or racial slurs.
  • No extremely graphic sounds, images, or videos. Blatant pornography is not tolerated.
  • Have fun and make sure you use the actual website for things!

Game Development Rules

This forum is for the discussion of amateur game development. Below are some simple rules you must follow.

  • All topics must deal with amateur game development.
  • If you are posting about your game, you must have at least two screenshots, a link to a website, or a link to the actual download itself.
  • If you are posting about development discussion, make it a serious discussion. Don't ask "Why is Legion Saga the greatest RM series ever?" and other such nonsense.
