Hi Friends,

I'm David. I'm a long time fan of indie games and especially RM2K/3. It's absolutely amazing to see what other have created here. I started gaming with the TI-99/4A computer with titles like "Hunt the Wumpus" and "Tunnels of Doom". Yeah...I'm showing my age here. From there, the classic old Sierra games like King's Quest and Space Quest were my favorite.

I'm working on remaking Tunnels of Doom with RPG Maker 2003, it an ambitious project giving this game an RPG story when it never had one before. In retrospect I probably should have remade Hunt the Wumpus first... it would have been a lot easier! (But then again... I'd want to give that game an RPG story as well!)

I'm looking forward to learning more about writing and character development here, as this is an area I can definitely improve on. So when I'm not doing my day job, I'll be here on RMN lurking and learning.

Feel free to talk to me, I'm easily approachable!

Revenge Explains Everything - Clichés To Hate

Well, I think it's more about how the game comes across. If the game comes across as barely touching the database, or other kind of next-to-no-effort attempt, it might fall under the Bad Content rule?

Or, maybe, it's a joke-example about what kind of game might fall under the Bad Content rule.

*Edit: There was also almost literally every game in this event where it was encouraged to use/abuse cliches.

Thanks Marrend,
This helps. I'll try leaving him in for now, as he is 1 of 12 characters and player does not HAVE to use him much beyond chapter 1 if they choose not to. I'm hoping to submit the game (still a work in progress) within the week, right now I'm removing assets and reducing file sizes, plus a few bugs/misspellings to correct.

I disagree. I don't accept cliche, or too cliche as an excuse not to play a game. Cliches are nearly impossible to avoid, because everything has been done before. As long as the game is good I'll play it. I hate it when people won't play games because of cliches that makes me extremely mad, or I should say beyond mad.

I've already violated at least a dozen cliches from The Grand List in my project. I considered purposefully adding more of them until I read the game submission rules. In particular, having "RTP hero Alex saving the world from a demon trapped in a crystal" is a big no no. Do people really refuse to play games that have Alex's sprite and name? I thought I was staying true to RM2K by having him.

It's not too late for me to change the intro and chapter 1 of my game... but man that'll be a lot of work.
