Dragon Warrior: Begin a New Quest

Hey all! I'm so sorry about this issue, it's due to a Google security update. I've now updated the link here, finally, so it should be accessible again.

I really couldn't figure out what the issue was for the longest time and figured it out tonight. I appreciate your patience everyone!

Thank you! I dabbled with a few tools while I made this and ultimately gravitated toward what you see now. I may actually have what you're talking about! But, feel free to send it along and I'd be thrilled to check it out. :)

Dragon Warrior: Begin a New Quest

Thank you very much ClassicPixels. :)

As I'm playing through DQ11, I can't help but smile in the number of small similarities my game has to it in various ways. I mean, right from the start... King Carnelian, really!? The game has been such a trip so far.

I'm so glad you enjoyed my own contribution!

Dragon Warrior: Begin a New Quest

Lucky!! I hope that you enjoy playing!

Let me know if you have any questions at all. :)

Dragon Warrior: Begin a New Quest

Wow, thank you so much KyleLascar for the shout-out -- that really means a lot. These games were both really near and dear to my heart, so it's cool to know that I have a few fans out there. I have more projects in mind, but none on the go. One day, when life settles down, I'll embark on the next. :)

Dragon Warrior: Begin a New Quest

My advice is to listen to Firefly, who invested an insane amount of time and effort into this game!

Personally, when I've playtested, I've grabbed the Golden Claw, and just immediately cast Outside/Return and then sold it. A store will pay a very handsome sum of money indeed! However, it would be really useful if you're into the heavy grind (and, there is only one in the whole game). :)

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll look into it!

Thanks Firefly!

Actually, on just about any transfer points where it would screw up the game, it is impossible to get into a battle. I position events in the tiles around each to artificially increase the step counter to the next battle so typically it cannot happen - but you found a rare one that I must have missed. Thank you.

***Edit: Actually, I didn't miss that one - so I'm actually perplexed as to what happened there, unless there was some funky battle-related event overlapping/interference happening, something that I haven't experienced in a while of playtesting. Sorry that you got unlucky, but I don't have an explanation offhand. Are you using any atypical abilities that might influence battles? For example, are you running around with the Golden Claw, or are you using the Padfoot ability, or something else I'm not remembering? I wonder if there's a flaw in the coding for some obscure element somewhere...

As a sidenote, every single transfer point on the World Map used to be surrounded by similar tiles that prevent battles. The problem was that having so many created a lot of lag, unfortunately, at least on my machine. So, I removed many of the ones that wouldn't screw up the game in some odd way.

I personally feel that Healusall is insanely useful and thus should be extremely expensive. 62 MP is exactly the same as the price of Healusall in Dragon Warrior 3, and in fact, it is much more expensive (128 MP I believe?) in Dragon Quest 9. Given that there are generally ways to restore MP as well, I think it's important to keep it pretty pricey for balance reasons. :)

Thanks for keeping that walkthrough going! Much appreciated.

PS: Yeah, those Red Dragons are intense. I've actually considered backing down to a set of Green Dragons, then a set of Blue, then a set of Red... rather than repeated sets of Red... and maybe sets of three instead of four. I don't want it to be impossible - just very tough.

Thanks Salvia! My next pie-in-the-sky project involves a guild centered in a smallish world revolving around a single town. In it, the idea is that on any given day in the game, you can take on the role of any member of your guild, and every member has particular things that they can achieve or witness or trigger, depending on what they do (including recruiting new members of their own). As you build up, you unlock secrets of the past, the town, the world you're in.

I'm really excited about it, but we're years away from it being a thing. BUT, the format alone will dictate that it deviates substantially from the restrictions that came with making a DQ fangame. While I really love the series, it will be nice to have the ability to be able to be a little more creative the next time I dive into making something!

Thanks again! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

Also Firefly, I just want to give you a stellar congrats on making such a cool resource. The walkthrough with pictures is fantastic and will be really helpful for people that get into the game. Thank you!
