200x30_200_Yojana_Gardens_Old.png

I already cut it down from 200x30 to 88x30, so it'll be much easier to tell what it's supposed to be. It COULD be smaller, but I didn't make it smaller because I want the player to explore it (there are hidden items here) and there's also a cutscene for a character if you happen to have her when you come here. This is also the area where you fight Yuyuko at (as a boss), so it has some importance.

I plan on updating the sheet using this spritesheet:

Which I had a friend of mine update the previous tileset this garden used with all of these flowers and whatnot. I think this'll work for a garden, assuming I do it correctly.

Aye, I needed the help. Most of what was in the video I fixed already at least (there's bound to be other things I missed. It's really hard to tell what's what anymore on that map lol...).

The Yojana Gardens will be the next thing to be updated, which I already have a preview of the original up. For the most part, I think I'm done with Winter Forest (the caves did get done too. Icicle Caves will require a brand new tileset as I'm using the Dungeon RTP tileset for whatever reason for it...yeah, that isn't going to cut it at all...).

Update to Winter Forest! For reference, this is the old map:

Yeah, quite a drastic change eh? Don't mind the caves, they're not done yet, and expect a few mapping errors here and there. This is the first time running through the map after finishing it, so there's bound to be some errors here and there. A lot of the stuff you see here, such as trees bunched together, or bushes in front of one another, was done by eventing. It's the only way I CAN do it that way!

So tell me, what do you guys think? Would you like to see more videos of other updated areas? Think it's too long? Note that I did do this with random encounters turned off, and remove about a minute or 2 for the start and end, and well...it's about 4-5 minutes long. Not really that bad all things considered, even with random encounters.

124x120_Winter_Forest_New.png

Well, I heard but I haven't HEARD. All I know is it's more of a % chance per step instead of like 1 fight every 80 steps (in my case). You never fully explained HOW it was broken really. ^^;

Yeah, I figured that's what it was. Yet the other maps that are just as big didn't really lag at all so I don't know what was going on (like, I had a super lagspike and had issues even moving on the 500x500. The others that are about as large, maybe not so much, didn't give me any lagspikes). That, and the 500x500 map had like...not that many events on it (well, maybe there was a bit if there was like 50 maps on one of them, and there's a lot of teleport events...)

EDIT - I think I'll do a video of the area after I'm done and post it here. Might be the best way to handle that~

124x120_Winter_Forest_New.png

I was getting lag on my old computer by a regular 500x500 map that had the entire dungeon on it, with like 10 events. So yeah...(that got split up, 50 rooms between the 2 large rooms. Yes, it had that many rooms in it. Based off of FFVIII's Tomb of the Unknown King, but I digress).

Yeah yeah I know lol. With the random encounter generally 70-80, it doesn't give you that many random encounters (and really, this is generally one of the areas I intend on keeping the size of), so it still shouldn't be that much of a problem even here. That's like 1.25% chance per step of getting into a random encounter so...

I'll probably finish my revamp tomorrow and post it in the next post after this or something, since it's 4 AM for me @_@. Managed to get some good revamps going on this at least~

124x120_Winter_Forest_New.png

Yeah, I know about those. The issue though is making it not run with the tree trunks. I guess I COULD make it go up into the canopy. Hmmm...

EDIT -

Well, that didn't take too much. Luckily there's not many cliffs in here, but this will help a bit. Had to use some event mapping for some areas though. I wanna use the tree thing in another forest, but that's gonna take forever to do. ;___;

124x120_Winter_Forest_New.png

Well, I'll give it a try and then upload a not zoomed out 12.5% image here in a bit, then post it in this post.

EDIT -

Huh...so there were two tiles I never knew what they did. You'd think after 5 years I'd have messed with these tilesets a bit more. Oh well. Don't mind some of the other errors on here, I already fixed them after seeing them. ^^;

124x120_Winter_Forest_New.png

Tileset for those interested.

Yeah, I would do something about that, but kinda hard with this particular chipset. I can't be super fancy like with the forests or caves sadly ;_;

124x120_Winter_Forest_New.png

Yeah, I just NOW realized (after Locke told me) that I was using the branch tiles wrong in the map (I didn't know that the middle tiles would loop indefinitely without the ends!). So now fixing that up.

I would go with the canopy idea, but the place is already a maze on its own so probably will pass on that here. I wanted to do this map remake now because it's literally my largest map bar the Yojana Gardens. ^^;

124x120_Winter_Forest_New.png

I was adding as many trunks as I could. I need to get a better trunk though, since the trunks I'm using don't cater too kindly when used separately (need to find a good one that fits this tileset). I didn't bother putting any trees hidden behind the canopy with events at all yet. Dunno why, just never thought of it (probably didn't want to deal with them yet or something). I kinda got tired of working on this map after so long... ^^;

EDIT - That's...pretty confusing to look at but it is neat. I think I just confuse myself trying to think "Below Hero" or "Above Hero" when mapping with events.
