Castles- Masterpiece Set

Oh no! I'm the only Orange one in the whole page... NOOO!!
Thankfully I've reached exam week and I have this day's test all done so I'm free for this and the next day and my level should be good to go soon. Still not sure what to do with the bridge though. Decisions decisions.

-But I'm iffy with the donut blocks on the conveyer belt. The player may not jump on 'em or fail to realize their purpose. So if the boss turns around, you have to wait forever as he goes against the current of the belt. I'd just get rid of them, as I think it would be more exciting that way.

-I'm also don't know why the player has to be the one to fall down the pit to escape the boss. It adds a bit of needless walking. I would just have the boss die by falling into the pit down below. And then the player can walk right out to the exit. But since I have no clue how the boss dies when you fall into the pit, maybe it's more trouble than it's worth? I just don't like the idea of the boss dying offscreen for mysterious reasons: It takes you out of the action.

-I'll get rid of 'em
-I believe you can get rid of the boss in 3 ways. You can use the stone bricks to climb up (I added this if someone doesn't know how the purple Yoshi works.) Is it necessary? Anyways you can also make a hole in the yellow blocks without falling in yourself(as Super Mario or with purple Yoshi) or you can fall in yourself and use the additional route to save yourself from the pit. (even if the "boss" follows you in the pit)
Oh and the way the Boss dies is a quirk in SMBX and sticking to layers. When the red skelly is off-screen and tries to update. (hitting a wall to turn around, a cliff to fall or etc.) The enemy and the wall to my knowledge resets to their original positions. Causing this off-screen death. I can't really fix this without taking out the 2 ways this is noticeable in. The stone bricks and the floor in the bottom.

Oh. and I'll also take a look at that brown block thing.

I got something done again, so...
Yeah...
third times the charm?... or was this fourth.
I made something to replace the old boss, so I hope it's good enough.

I know, I somehow managed to do that at one point, but it’s still aggravating if you’re not some sort of SMB deity.
Don't all the RMN compilations require that status? :?
I'm pretty sure the actual RPG compilations don't... It would be rather worrying if they did.

@Isrieri
I made a rather odd choice with the boss room and hopefully it turned out all right. At the moment it feels a bit cluttered, and I'll have to change a couple of graphics, but other than that it should be good to go.
Oh and for your question about the raft part. The switch is mainly for the path it's in. Hitting the switch will make skull raft useless, but provides a platforming challenge across the pit (I'm not sure how easy this is as super Mario... I'll have to test it out.) and not doing so will lead you back to the switch. Unless you go through the yellow bricks at the start of that part, in which case skull raft awaits.

I beat it in 8 minutes. Beat that >=D

I don't consider our times comparable, as I went through the whole thing without collecting a power-up. As I wanted to see how possible it was. Without a hit, all the way. only reason I know it took me 45 minutes is because I was listening to "All final fantasy other battle themes" on youtube. It was 1 hour and 20 or so minutes and I got to the 45 minute mark on it.
I'm offended that you think I cheated
(as you stated that you think your the only one who didn't cheat, it's a bold claim)

Oh and my speedrun on section 1 so far is aprox. 50 seconds. I'll post a video if I can get the damn recorder not to speed up the video.

@Isrieri
I'll get cracking after school again.

Castles- Masterpiece Set

Well, that was a Final level indeed. Took me 45 minutes to get through, though I spent 30 or so of those in the first section.
I really only had a hard time in 3 obstacles in the entire level.
First was the HB in a tight corridor followed by 3 firebars, a saw and a firebar.
This was the thing I wasted most lives on, due to the 3rd firebar being in the incorrect position when I tried to make my move, resulting in a forced retreat, which was blocked by firebar #2. Over 10 times... I finally got it right though.
2nd was the beginning, cuz I was rusty...
3rd was the saw thingy and the thwomp fire ball section afterwards. Likenin8halos said the grinders were doing some moves of their own and messed up my timing a bit, but I think that made it easier, since they now didn't even touch the block in the pic. I got through most other places without a single hit. Such as the endings of both sections.
Well. I don't have muuch to critique on, I'd like a place to duck under in that firebar section, since it felt more like I got lucky than that I accomplished a feat. Or maybe there's something I'm missing there... I'm not sure.
Anyways it was a good level regardless. I'll let the pros do the real critique.

Castles- Masterpiece Set

I'd like to try the level once I get home. I'll play it until I beat it without getting hit AND in less than a minute.

Castles- Masterpiece Set

I updated my Stonebrick castle... Finally
I addressed all issues people gave forth to me I think, apart from reducing the castle roof by 1. I'd rather die than reduce it!
I changed the boss, I hope it's more interesting, less monotonous and more fun. You could beat it from anything between 8 to 60 seconds, Depending on your aproach and such.
I have 1 problem with it, that can be fixed, but I like the yellow yoshi, iceflowers, leaves and HB suits so I most likely wont fix it. Unless it's a deal breaker...

Castles- Masterpiece Set

I've been working on the level more, and I agree with all of them. In fact I've already changed, almost all of it.
- Checkpoint, ceiling, skull secret and the yellow brick area have all been modified
- I have been strugling to make a diffrent boss too actually, and is the reason I havent updated the file yet. Because as of now the boss is a real mess.
- I'll think about changing reznor platforms to cement and I'll change the connecting tiles to side tiles in the sphere room.
- I have added a couple of things in the level too, but they shouldn't break anything.
- The yellowbrick at it's current state is passable as both big and small Mario, but I switched it around. Now you are being rewarded if you are big instead of making it harder for biggies. Of course Big can still use the small Mario route.
- I believe I might have tucked the checkpoint too far back... I'll probably change it again
- Skull secret is now completely lava free, I added the HB suit and made the 1up a 3up
- I also changed most if not all fire flowers to leaves, I can change them back, but I believe leaves have more impact on how you beat the level, as in they actually help instead of being purely decorational like the fireflowers
- The ceiling is now mainly out of blocks, but I wanted to do some contrast in there too so I added some darker brick sections and some random pools of lava. I'm just hoping that it's not too distracting ( and a secret shh... )
