Looks really good from the screenshots i see. Nice art and good veriety for the tilesets, the second one looks very similar to that big painting from Ib (i like those small references to the clasics).

Might as well make some time to play this soon enough.

Ghost School

I recently played Corpse Party (the main inspiration for this game), which turned out to be better than this. Even then it still has its own charm and i still like it as much as i did last year when i first played it, mostly because i seem to love those school based horror games.

Despite being pretty generic in the beginning, it does pick up half way through especially with the story and the character interaction.
If there was a problem that sticks out, it would the fact that the puzzles in the later part of the game are of the "go find the next event trigger" kind, often in the areas you've already explored and inspected everything. This makes it a bit slow especially with those large maps. Overall it took about 6 hours to beat it.

Pocket Mirror Classic (2016)

It was rude for me not to say anything about this game back when i first played it in 12-16 april previous year and got all of the endings. Honestly it is the second best game i have ever played and the best 2D/RPGMaker/Horror game despite me saying a few months before that nothing will be able to top Ib and Mad Father but this one did.
What should i say, i liked everything about Pocket Mirror and the only 2 things that affected my amazing immersion i had for all of the 4 playthroughs were: crashes like the one in the post above mine which are fixed by changing the filenames of the soundtracks in the game's directory (fixing the special character) for both of the crashes in that room in chapter 2 and at the beggining of chapter 4 and restarting the game every once in a while. And also the rather cryptic puzzles that are basically walktrough or trial and error only like the
Scissor Door in the end of Fleta's chapter for which i tried everything but the scissor probably because it was barely visible and that puzzle in Harpae's chapter where you have to move by the sound cues

Everything else was great: the soundtrack, the graphics, the animated scenes and even the story despite later learning that all of the chapters follow the same structure which is why the later chapters like Lisette were not as good. I really liked Fleta and especially Harpae (and her chapter) for which i cried (all of the 4 times) when she died, and that is knowing that i do not even remember the last time i cried for a video game character. It was truly something for me.
I could not fully understand its parallel story, which is fine as that's going to be something for this year when i will play it again.
In the end, i played a lot more of those RM horror games since then but none were as good, which is something i expected. Even knowing that my own game that is in development ever since i finished Pocket Mirror, might as well never even get close to how good PM is.
Huge thanks for the Pocket Mirror dev team, i hope they do well with their remake despite it probably won't be for me as touching as the original. Truly thank you!

Lisa "The First"

Hello everyone, I just played Lisa: The Painful and I came here to play this one.

I did everything to play the game, but whenever I try to save the game in a slot, an error pops up, writing something like: "C:/Users/Public/Desktop/Lisa/Save01.lsd cannot be created."

I googled the error and I couldn't find anything, I hope someone could help me :(

Maybe you started the game directly from the .rar file, without extracting it first. This is just a guess as i have yet to play this game but this problem is a thing for pretty much all games that come in an archived file, as the archive is opened read only.

Just finished this game an hour ago for the first time, i got the bad ending.
It was much better than expected, especially since clearly a lot of effort was put into it.
- The horror elements and the atmosphere were very good and are a step up from Witch's House, on other hand the rest is close to standard for a game of this kind.
- The RTP tileset with the oilpaint filter does complement the game for a while, until it becomes jarring after you see the characters which are not filtered for some reason. The problem with the RTP is not the aspect but that hardly anything is scaled properly like how the switch on the wall and the teddy bear are almost as big as the character.
- The BGM tracks are good and set the tone properly for a horror game despite some of them being out of place like the one that plays during the first chase scene.
- The gameplay is way above average, the puzzles are creative for the most part (some which use even the 8-way movement mechanic of the engine) but at times there are some which are overused to death in RM games like these such as the match the 2 rooms or the reverse for no reason safe password (which i fell for again and had to use a walkthrough). The only real problem i had here is that in the beggining the game gives you a few pots that you can interact, collect and use an item from the inventory which gives an elevated feeling (even without knowing that this feature is going to be used later in a more cohesive way) and then it turns out only a few things (often marked with a sparkle effect) are this way; the rest can be barely interacted with, which is why it came out as a bit disappointing. The chase scenes make up for it though.
- The story is the average RM horror in spooky house type even though effort was put in with stuff like the optional notes. That's okay since on other hand i'm used to it and the nostalgic feeling i get from these kinds of games is welcome, however the bad ending is among the most cliche endings imaginable but maybe the other ones are better. I will definetly replay the game and get the other ones too.

The playtime was around 1.5 - 2 hours.

Personally, I was quite disappointed that the series went from a traditional horror endeavor with little dialogue and great atmosphere to a shonen-esque thriller that tries to ape some JRPGs (and Metal Gear Solid) by piling conspiracy on top of conspiracy. Even the setting was sort of retconned... the kids that could easily have been regular students ended up being involved with a massive class struggle, and the world that seemed somewhat grounded (despite the demonic element) is now an unholy brew of sword and sorcery trash. And that protagonist... damn, he couldn't be more of a self-insert if he tried.

Not that the game is bad, mind you, but it does feel like a downgrade; the extra ambition IS nice, but I'd be happier if the atmosphere and spirit of the original had been kept intact. I'm reminded of Ex Mortis, another "franchise" that started out with a relatively introspective, "intimate" horror title and then went on to become a cargo cult rendition of Devilman.


After finishing this game yesterday from start to finish for the 10th time, getting all the endings including the variation for the second ending by getting all the mysterious stones, i can say you're totally right about the story as it does this thing even in the last parts of the bad and true ends.
I can't confirm that it rips off Meta Gear since i haven't played it, but even the first time around i knew that this story isn't very original.
By the time it reveals the existence of those other demons i sensed a big twist coming and right after that it delivered not one but like 3 or 4 twists in a very short span of time all while the cliches reached a critical level, redefining almost all you knew about the first Purgatory.
The structure of the plot and progression system right after those twists severely limits the posibilities for the role of the next character to be introduced; by that time i knew that the ending will not be any less cliched.
Ebel is an expository character, mostly to tell the player more about what Enri thinks and he certainly feels forced. I wish there was an ending/route where he dies early in the game or a route where Emma is the main character as she is my favorite character, or maybe Lukas after pulling another twist?
Despite all this i really liked this story and i wasn't bothered at all by any of its shortcomings. My favorite ending was the one you get with both Emma and Enri routes as the very last part was truly shocking.

Overall it's a fantastic game and for me it ranks up as being my second favorite of this kind, right behind Pocket Mirror. It's certainly way better than the first one which was pretty generic and forgettable, in fact it's so good i'm going to play it again as i got a strange sudden nostalgia feeling from not playing it every day, this time i'm doing it slowly and not skipping the dialogue.
I can't wait for Purgatory 3.

Hey there, Birdi! Nice to meet you :) I've heard of Wolf Editor before but never checked it out because it says it's meant for advanced users and I'm certainly not that XD I'm still learning MZ through books and videos :P

I'm an intermediate programmer so normally RPG Wolf isn't that much of a trouble for me. I tested the things it can do a few weeks ago, and i got used to all of the features i wanted (at least in the current translated version it looks like it's only missing video playback, which i don't need). The reason i picked it was because it is free.

The hard parts are the music and art design as i'm going for full original assets not just the runtime package ones and for sprites i want 32x32 for everything except the characters (32x64) and special stuff like animations.
I already have a partial tileset that looks good enough so far and right now i focus on my main character. Front and Back sprites are done, Right/Left ones is what i work on right now.
