Do you mean to say that the tiny farming village had no idea of what was going on or that they were in the middle of it?
The way it sounds now, "all but secluded from these grave events" means that they've experienced everything EXCEPT seclusion from the events--basically that the grave events have completely overrun the village. If you mean otherwise, then the words "all but" should be omitted.

I agree with Chaos. How do you see how much damage you're doing when a massive status bubble is blocking the numbers?

Linear growth is consistent so there's comfort in knowing that every level you gain you will also increase your strength or defense by a set amount. This also helps balance issues because it's difficult to increase the stats of enemies to balance later on in the game when a character is growing exponentially and gaining stats by leaps and bounds.

I still wish there was a system to it. I know that it's all subjective but adding a scoring system makes something objective. I think that IGN takes user reviews into account which is why the website can give a game a perfect score in all categories but still gives a less than perfect score overall. This may not matter to some people but I think that it's a bit wishy washy to say one thing and then do another. It's like punching someone in the face in the middle of a conversation.
