I think I might give some money steals to every enemy so that it's clear that you should be checking what you can grift from everyone.

Oh okay, there are enemies you can steal from. I just checked the Skitter and saw that. I thought I used it against all the enemies but I clearly wasn't thorough enough. I guess I just figured you didn't include any in the demo. Grifting money would be pretty cool.

Try stealing from one of the trio of dastardly characters near the end of the demo for hilarious (in my opinion) result XD

Dang, I missed some cool grifting action. What happens?

Wait, you can actually steal in this demo? Everytime I tried to use Grist it showed no items for any of the enemies in the game. Am I missing something?

@dink: Yep, that's the only optional boss encounter in the demo (there's also a boss-less optional mine in Giant Garden). The full game will have quite a few optional areas like the one you found.

Keep the bug reports coming, guys, I'm fixing them as soon as I see them posted. How bad is the lag? Is it dropping a frame every few steps or is it major stuttering all the time?

Yeah, I ran into that place too! I was tense the whole because I was expecting a boss battle throughout that entire walk. Guessing it's going to be behind that webbed-door. Looking forward to that if so.

I don't know about everyone else, but I really only had lag in the cloudy hill area. It was every few steps which I thought was weird because the area didn't seem too covered in events or anything like that to cause the slowdown.

Just beat it! I can already tell this game is going to be something most special. At first I didn't even realize the fountains were healing points and found myself falling in battle to heal up...(pretty embarrassing in retrospect). I really loved the goon hideout and pretty much all of the characters! Shaking all of the characters was fun too. The transition from locations to the world map is one of the best things ever.
Information Guy just can't catch a break can he? When I found his pipe exit I was laughing up a storm.
I curse you for ending it on that cliffhanger, I wanted more!

How many optional bosses are there in the demo? I found
Slither
(who is a tough SOB) and was wondering if you had a few more hidden away.

Also, I did run into a few visual glitches. Mainly just a few overhead tiles (the tree behind the grave in Smiles and at the goon hideout before jumping into the hole), but I also had the battle exclamation mark stay over my character for a little bit after a battle. I was spamming slime calls so that may have had something to do with it. I also had the same thing Sgt. Metool had with the fox enemy respawning when the cloud enemy splits up. Guessing that's not intentional.

All-in-all it was very impressive!

Special Announcement!

Next week confirmed for best week ever.

Before school started I showed a few screenshots during Release Something for a project I'm working on:

Now that's summer back I've gotten into it again (was a hell of a semester) and I got someone to put together a couple new facesets for me and was looking for some feedback on them.

NEW:

I really like them but there's something about the sunglasses that is bugging me... Curious to see what people think about that. I like the new menu a lot more now though.

And here's a new map I put together for an art gallery:

RMN's (New) Favourite RM Games Of All Time Thread (2016 Edition)

I can see at least ten better games than To The Moon, which are on the list. And don't take me wrong, I liked the game. To the moon is too much middle-aged Nicholas Cage to be the best.

Then...vote for them?

How will this list be updated if one of us decided to change our list? I'm sure looking through each of our posts to check what scores we gave to which games would be pretty tedious for you.
Yeah it is a minor bit of work, but I'd do that, though. If you just state that you're gonna change your list, I'll note the changes that you've made and adjust the scores likewise.

Oh cool, I was going to play some more of the classics (as well as finish a lot of recent RM games) before listing a top 10 but I'll just post my top three and work off of that in the future:

1. Exit Fate - What first seems like a Suikoden fangame quickly becomes something special with 75 playable characters, unique battle and magic systems that stay fresh, as well as challenging, throughout the whole game, and enough story twists and clever mechanics that keep the player engaged for the entire 50-70 hour (?!) playtime. I still have no idea how/why this amazing game isn't on RMN because it's easily the finest example of a complete, classic JRPG experience made with the engine. The only real downside is the telltale RPG Maker staple of using music from more famous RPG's. With a unique soundtrack this game would be perfect.
2. To the Moon - To this day, this is still the the only videogame that's ever made me cry. The music is self-composed and truly something special when combined with its sad, bittersweet tale. Curse you "Everything's Alright". Such a well timed song for that particular story moment. One of the finest examples of a story-driven game in general, let alone one made with RM. Combine the music and story with some of the best backgrounds and atmospheric set-pieces and you have one hell of a masterpiece. If you haven't yet played it, I fully endorse it.
3. Lisa: the Painful RPG - A hard-hitting post-apocalyptic Earthbound. This game is BRUTAL, chock full of tough decisions as you run into the murderous and weird inhabitants of a doomed world. The quirky characters and unique setting are also balanced well, surprisingly, with the terrible and dark twists the story takes throughout. Which is something you don't see well done in most video games in general, let alone an RM game. If you haven't tried it yet I fully suggest buying it on Steam.

So...is there any reason we can't review this amazing game? It came out almost two years ago and I feel like gushing.

Detective Games - Risking the Unwinnable

author=Elder71
I'm discovering more and more than 'true' detective mechanics are a uniquely challenging project to tackle. From my preliminary research and planning, it seems (on the surface, at least) that no matter what route you go down, the relationship between the player's freedom to investigate and the game's internal logic invariably leads to hand holding.

I'm very excited to put these ideas into practice - I'm sure there are pitfalls and challenges around every corner. Does your game have a page yet? I'd like to track its progress. Maybe we could inspire one another?

Yeah, that's for sure. I'm starting to see why games like LA Noire added more vehicle and shootout gameplay during development. Hopefully, I can find a strong balance since I doubt my current project will become a "true" detective game.

I don't have a game page yet for my project yet, although I did release a few screenshots awhile back for the "Release Something" event they had during my spring semester just to get some feedback. I was waiting until I had a demo to make an actual game page. Never really been a fan of starting one without something to show and all that. Also, still trying to finalize a lot of gameplay options. I'll definitely let you know when I get the page up though.
