EPLIPSWICH'S PROFILE

Just one of those who enjoys playing indie RPGs and looks out for really good-quality ones.

I'm also an unofficial game translator and have finished English translations of two top-quality Japanese RPG Maker RPGs: Seraphic Blue and Nocturne: Rebirth. Both games and their game pages can be accessed on the right of this profile.

Finally, I'm currently working on translating a visual novel called Aiyoku no Eustia :) I'm also eyeing on three future Japanese RPG Maker RPGs that I may plan to translate in order of priority once they're out and I've played them. The official and blog sites are as follows:

This definitely looks like an interesting RPG. Imma give this a try and give you my initial impressions :)

What are you working on now?

Just translated enough Japanese text in the database to make Seraphic Blue able to run without Japanese! Hooray! Now i can test run Seraphic Blue on RPG Maker 2000 without running Microsoft AppLocale.

Even though it's enough, I haven't fully translated all stuff in the database yet. I still have a few more item names to translate before having to translate the items' descriptions. So yeah that's my translation progress so far :)

RPGS... you've beaten

Beaten:

1) Final Fantasy VI (Advance)
2) Final Fantasy VII (Well actually i didn't because I couldn't beat Safer Sephiroth. That was many years ago, and I was lazy to resume back. Someday I will though...)
3) Final Fantasy VIII
4) Final Fantasy IX
5) Final Fantasy (Advance)
6) Fire Emblem
7) Pokemon Series (except the Nintendo DS versions...)
8) Some old-school RPG called Technorage?

Ya...and that is all...

Most Anticipated RM Games (2010)

Simple list of anticipated games:

1) Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis
2) Phantom Legacy

Heh...I guess these are the only two so far that I'm anticipating.

What are you working on now?

Today is the day i started on an adventuring in translating one of the biggest and most popular RPG Maker games in the Japanese community: Seraphic Blue. Yep, that's right. Got the approval from Tempura, the creator of this game and now working on translating the small stuff first (abilities, items etc...)

RMN on TVTropes!

A bit off-topic, but while we're on it, do check out a Let's Play text version of Romancing Walker on this Tvtropes forum webpage:

Games and Why You Play Them

I'll have to admit...i do play games here, but i only play those games that have received great praises from many of the other players. Things like featured games are also games that i would also look out for. I also usually tend to read some reviews of games first before i get into the games.

Then the next phase is of course to try out the games. If I like, I'll continue the game all the way till the end. If not, I'll just leave the game to dust and go onto another new game etc etc.

What attracts me into playing the game all the way? Initial thing that attracts me is the reception. After that, the gameplay and storyline are the most important to me, because i feel RPGs aren't good enough without at least a decent storyline, but of course the game play is highly important too. Graphics are secondary, but they have to at least be decent too.

Anyway, let's just say I'm not a fan of RPG Maker XP games that use the default character sprites, because i find those sprites kinda boring and rigid...i find sprites in 2003/2000 more alive than XP. VX sprites are decent and better than XP sprites, though i have yet to actually finish a RPG Maker VX game... Also, I find custom graphics a lot better than the default ones, because custom graphics give a game more life and meaning than RTP ones. For once i also look at originality as a whole.

What do people care about?

I don't post much on these forums but i do check out this website from time to time on any updates to any new (and well-known) indie RPGs, and i come here mainly because of this.

What i care about :

1) The indie games that get much support from much of the community. I usually play games that are highly recommended and praised/receive many positive comments from the community. Then i play these games, enjoy them, then actually record them down as indie games that I've played in a list of my own (yea i love making these kind of lists).

2) Because of these, I love reading reviews of games. Reviews will highly determine whether games are worth playing etc, and i come to this website to check out new indie RPGs and read reviews etc.

In terms of game design:

1) Originality: I would love to play RPGs that wouldn't remind me distinctively of another indie/commercial RPGs and such. Because of this, i also hardly play any fangames. Ripped graphics are fine with me, as long as they don't remind me too much of any commercial RPGs that I've played.

2) Gameplay: I'm cool with the default battle system, but would be great if authors are to make them in such a way that even default battle systems can be interesting. I'm not too stringent into this but of course great gameplay would be cool.

3) Storyline: One main reason why i play indie RPGs is because of this factor. If an RPG is great, there ought to have at least a storyline and i would always be curious to get indulged in the storyline, be it good or bad.

That's pretty much all i care about really on this website, to be honest. I hardly (or rather, never) make games myself, 'cause i don't really have the patience to make one. Usually after playing an indie RPG, i will reflect to myself why this game's fun and such. That's the beauty of indie RPGs, because indie RPGs are created by ordinary people with creative ideas and such, so there're a whole range of great games to search and such.

Games that I've played or currently playing

Everlong - Kinda got generic past halfway through the game. Stopped after some frustration in the game. Intending to resume with new version someday though.

Sacred Earth: Bonds - When i found out that this is a dungeon crawler after passing through the fire dungeon, and coupled with real frustrating boss battles, i give up...

Laxius Force - Got bored.

Aedemphia - Long forgotten

Quintessence: A Blighted Venom - Bored with the game.

Rose Chronicles - Couldn't really get into the game.
