Space Police Vocal Unit SPECTRUM Review

I think devs can learn a lot from listening to what people say about their stuff, though it's also true that you probably can't create a game that pleases everyone since catering to everyone's tastes simultaneously is just about impossible. IMO at least the negative feedback is definitely more valuable than the positive, since if you only listen to the positive you probably won't change anything each time you make something new. To be honest it's more motivating to me to have gotten a clearly communicated, constructive piece of criticism so I can aim higher next time (★ω★)

and @fletcharrow Great way to take it : )
And yeah personally I think it's good to go for the free-to-use stuff haha, for the same reasoning.

It's a solid first project, and it only gets better from here on out~ good luck

Thanks Kylaila! Hopefully next time will run a little smoother. I'm of the mindset that games absolutely need to be criticised and so I'm not really gonna be mad if people pick out flaws in my stuff as long as it's constructive and justified, which NTC3 absolutely was, so it's a pretty fair review in my opinion ( ´ ▽ ` )

Well, I've just heard those tracks in RM games so often, they're practically synonymous for me with RTP by now, even though that's technically not the case. However, I didn't really expect you to make your own music: just search wider for other music sources. Since your game is free, you do not really need to worry about copyright, so you could've used just about anything with no issue. You can search up any OST on YouTube these days, and use websites to rip the audio out and put it in the game, FYI.

That's fair, the phrasing just confused me a little. Even though it is a free game, though, I can't say I'm one for ignoring copyright rules (if someone did that with my art and then said 'I'm using it for free, so it doesn't count!' I'd still be mad after all) so I'd much rather use royalty free music than rip existing soundtracks, even if it means sacrificing originality or so on. I have a bunch of free-use sites hoarded away in files but ended up just sticking to one for this project, though I can't even say I'm familiar enough to know who's used frequently or not, so maybe I'll use some of the other ones I have jotted down somewhere next time.

Thanks for clarifying!

Thanks for your review!

Sorry the game didn't seem to live up to your expectations. Though to be honest, I totally get your gist with pretty much everything mentioned (Though I'm not sure what you mean by the game utilising only RTP tracks; all of the music is free-use but by Youfulca of Wingless Seraph, though most SFX are indeed RTP.)
I would have loved to include specifically made music/SFX and even potentially voice acting due to the nature of the game (and this is something I did look into at the start of development but eventually had to give up on due to lack of funds, development staff, etc), but since it was a solo project it didn't prove possible since I actually have no musical skill at all. I'm unfortunately not financially capable of commissioning people to do that for me at the moment either (T▽T)

I think most raised points are pretty fair. I'm much more of a character designer/illustrator rather than a pixel artist or level designer, so the maps are really not as interesting as I would have wanted them to be, and this is not only my first time creating an RPGMaker game but actually a consistent plot in its entirety (so I'm half surprised any of the twists got any kind of remotely decent praise at all (⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄) ) Not to mention it was made in some kind of hellish rush period due to my personal schedule, but hopefully I can only go up from here. I'd really like to try working in a team to resolve some of the issues raised I couldn't overcome myself in the future (。T ω T。) I'm a little sad I didn't catch the encounter rate issues earlier as the testers did not seem to have an issue with it, but now that it's out there and everyone seems to be having trouble with it it's definitely something I'll take into account in future projects.

At least with there being a few redeemable points, perhaps remaking this game in future would be plausible.

All your feedback has definitely been noted. Thanks again for your time!

Hey I played this on my stream!

Here's the video if you wanna take a look!

Oh wow thanks so much!! Hopefully it made for at least some kind of decent stream entertainment haha (The art crits are so valid too, I am admittedly not the best pixel artist and more of an illustrator but I had no team for this so just had to do my best T____T maybe next time I'll have someone to work with or just more time to work on pixels lol)

Thanks for playing!!

It might be nice to add a guard feature to the characters as well. That way its bit easier to avoid knocking out enemies when your party starts to outgrow them in terms of levels or if the enemy is getting low on HP but is just outside the range required to be apprehended.

Thanks for your feedback!! There's mostly a big enough gap between the boundary where you can start arresting and the knockout point that will allow for an extra turn if you can't arrest yet(especially since Arrest has higher priority over everything except Staccato) unless you happen to be dramatically overlevelled or crit really heavily, but it seems that some people are grinding pretty hard in the early stages (it's so not long enough to warrant that TT) so I also kind of understand the request for the guard/wait command. Saying that it's also completely possible to get through without such a conmand and I also don't want players to be dramatically overlevelled which this command might allow for, but I may see if some testers have time to give it a run through with the inclusion of such a command next time I have free time from university. Thanks again for your feedback ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡

Thanks so much for your submission! It's really surreal to see a lets play of my own game (?!)

Thank you for picking it up and giving it a try. Hopefully I can address a few of your concerns, and maybe more as the game goes on.

I understand it can be quite difficult to start with without a health bar on the enemies. I did look into it, but after feedback from testers came back mostly OK, I decided it was OK for the player to experiment slightly. As I got from your video too, you quickly figured out the pattern to the vandals HP and was able to arrest them in a couple turns. As for bosses, they typically have a line of speech when you're getting close to being able to apprehend them (I don't class Nocturne as a boss ao she's the only exception.)

As for Legato unusable out of battle, a lot of my testers were very oversaturated with items and so it never really came up as an issue. Especially in the later stages when there are more spots to auto-heal (sometimes they take a bit of searching but they're there!) However I do sort of agree that it would be useful (especially after the difficulty heightens a bit later on) so perhaps this is something I'd like to change if I get a chance to update again Σ(-᷅_-᷄๑)

Like I say, I'd love to update this game a little further when my schedule frees up so anything you have to say wrt opinions and feedback will absolutely be considered, though!

Hope you enjoy the rest of the game (even just a little bit) and thanks for sharing╰(*´︶`*)╯♡
