On Classical Plot Structure (Act 2, Part 1)
Classic or cliche? Meh.
These are good points to study and indoctrinate into one's storytelling style, but--I dunno if you mentioned this--it is ALWAYS good to mix up these events. Say, the character gets into no pinches whatsoever until scene 13 (which would be reversal 1), then everything starts going to shit with one pinch after another. Either way, good points; very detailed!
Also, if I could simplify this for people out there, all of these events fit into the old "hero's journey" archetype, which goes as follows:
Prologue: Intro
Act I: Departure
Act II - whatever: Trials
Final Act: Last Trial
Epilogue: Return
Even if no one gets the stuff up above, just follow that 5-part system of storytelling and you'll make it big in Hollywood in no time. I think.
