Going it alone: You have to do all the work (ALL of it), some of it WILL be shoddy because you just can't have all the possible skills, you'll have to majorly limit your scale because going solo means super time constraints
Teaming up: You may still have to do all the work, or most of it; some of it will almost certainly be shoddy anyway; team members flaking out can lead to crunch time panic when you realise that there's significant portions of the game that just aren't possible to finish.
Teams are really a crapshoot. I tend to recommend going solo if you can't team up with someone who's already proven to be reliable. Just pick something small and put a focus on polishing it until it's a beautiful gem.
Or, if you don't care much, focus on getting the thing presentable and then go watch Dora the Explorer or whatever kids are into these days.
