As for your complaints, yes I admit all of those flaws (Especially the binary puzzle...). That puzzle was aiming to push the average player to the 3rd ending. Also, there were two ways to reach every ending except the third one, so I tried to balance that a bit.
I think the main reason why the environment didn't fit the mood is because I was using only RTP. I'm not a very good computer artist, so I pretty much can't do much about it.

I actually have been playing games and reading any review attached to them, then seeing how it was done (The game and the review).
