What, in particular, are you looking for? (always ask someone who has access to sales info)

I'm off to tune a piano, now. But I'll be back to read what you say.
but can you tuna fish?

also, have you tried buying a fiddle?
@pianotm> Maybe a full-sized practice violin? Not necessarily a high-end one, so long as it's sturdy enough to last a year or so, it'll do. I only ever get to play when a friend of mine brings hers to school, so I don't have the experience to make use of costly ones in the first place.

I've been asking around for second-hand ones, but with no luck at all.

@kentona> No, I cannot tuna fish, but I can tuna gitara. Though isn't a fiddle the same as a violin?

In that case, here.

There's Chinese made starter violins starting at 40 dollars and electric violins starting at 85.

@Kentona, first find me a fish to tuna. And fiddle and violin are the same instrument. Fiddle is a colloquial term referring to the violin when used in music originating with Irish/Scottish/French roots such as swing, jazz, bluegrass, and folk. Technically, any instrument using a bow can be a fiddle.
Piece of general advice - if you ever want to take lessons, do so starting out.
The first lessons are the most important ones, it is far easier to learn things new than to iron bad habits out. So study up on proper form!

I'LL PLAY MY WAY I'M NOT A PART OF YOUR SYSTEM

i was the kid who always hit the mouthpiece into my trumpet to make the funny sound and then had to pay to get it extracted
I have never played a stroke/bow instrument, but I think that what's most important in the beginning is to work on your vibrato/tone. Even if you can play the right notes of a piece, it will still sound terrible if your tone is underdeveloped.
@pianotm> The shipping costs more than the violin itself o_0
At the least I'm getting the sense of what I'll get with my budget. I'd probably go hunting in the nearby shops one last time before I pick one up online, but thanks!

@kylaila> While that's good advice, I... don't think I'd be able to follow that even if I wanted to. I don't have a very good track record in practicing proper forms in anything. I'll try though XP

Here, this site has free shipping.

Be warned. This is definitely coming from China. Free shipping will mean waiting three to six months.

Otherwise, Guitar Center has violins on sale right now starting at 129. That's the next best price you'll find.

Here's an ebay site.

That won't work. She'd have to go down to Georgia.

No need, really. I already lost my soul in a wild game of bullshit during Christmas break.
