That's the beauty of depression: you don't need anything to be depressed about! Your brain just goes, "Oh, look, serotonin that hasn't done its job! I'll just soak that shit back up, I'm sure the neurons don't need it!" and then you're just full of self loathing and worry and it's so bad that you turn off all feelings and the world is now grayed and it feels like you're piloting yourself like a giant robot, only it's a giant robot that doesn't work right so doing anything other than lying in bed and staring at nothing is a monumental undertaking.
Or, alternately, if you start thinking about it, you can find all sorts of exciting things to be depressed about, from the mundane, "I am terrible and everything I do is crap" to "Everyone I know is only tolerating me to be polite, and really hate me," to the more epic, "People with the wrong opinions are in political power, and are going to turn this country into a third world hellhole, and there is nothing I could possibly do to stop it," or even, "The entire planet is basically fucked and we're all going to die from the current problems."
Depression: Your brain has basically just given up on the idea of being happy.

I have a hard time understanding depression, but if there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that none of you deserve it. You're all awesome people with a ton of good qualities, and you have a right to be happy. Don't let your brains tell you otherwise - they're lying.

Now I'm depressed for being reminded of this.

Thanks... I hope you know that actually means a lot. :)
