The rate at which 'RMN is Dying' is directly proportional to how personally dissatisfied you are with RMN

"RMN is Dying" is just the way people express their personal dissatisfaction with RMN. It's no different from saying "that movie sucked" or "FoodX tastes like shit".
But if the reported cases of personal dissatisfaction with RMN are on the rise, isn't that indicative of a problem?

What's great and indicative is that you are getting people from "both sides" saying/talking about leaving RMN.

It's not RMN in the slightest but the its users who are feeling the divide amongst themselves.

This place is just the middle man and scapegoat in one convenient package.

Aren't we all?
Yeah seriously. Things have been very peaceful around here.

I feel like the only ones saying it's bad are the ones deliberately insisting that it's bad.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Maybe the people who think it's dying lived for the awful tumblr drama and can't imagine why anyone would visit the site without it.

I don't know what he's talking getting special treatment from the mods. The mod with the banhammer even told us she was looking for excuses not to banne but once he passed six warnings, she ran out of excuses and had to.

I may be friends with the mods, but I'm pretty sure that if I turned complete ass and ignored warnings, I'd be banned too. Of course, that's merely an impression. I have no intention of testing it.

Maybe, they're not banning other people because other people are paying attention to their warnings and not deciding to completely disregard them??? Could that be a thing?

Don't underestimate my ability to get myself banned, I can do it any time I want!

I'd believe RMN was dying last week. There was like no new posts or statuses anywhere. :(

Not that I was helping at all there...

Though like realtalk, I feel like there could be SOME sort of legit stuff behind RMN "dying," in the sense that 1) fora in general are declining in favor of newer social media and b) I don't think RPGMaker is gaining too many new users these days. (Particularly since JRPGs are fairly unpopular at the moment, comparatively. Also graphics.)

So, less because of slapfighting or modding, more just being an old hobby on an old system of interaction. We're basically those old geezers playing horseshoes at the park.
This reminds me of 'GW is dying!' but then decades passed before it really died.

Traditional/Classic JRPGs, generally the stuff RPG Maker is modeled after, has had a rough last couple of years. I'm definitely noticing a shift towards "odd" and whimsical JRPGs like Mother and OFF, especially among younger players.

I guess we're in some weird generation transition. :s

because you can't just make the same stuff over and over again and expect it to sell well. it's true in every genre. there's a market for interesting new 2d rpgs, but even something i enjoyed like Brave Hero Yuusha had the same old combat and only moderately better dungeon design than a lot of RPGs. I know you know that and have worked on it since, but it applies to... everybody who gam maks.

guys world of warcraft is dying. it only has 73 times the subscribers of the second most popular mmorpg, and their gross monthly income is down to a measly 81.4 billion dollars. and people on the forums are all talking about how bored they are with it.
Keep in mind that we just added a few more of the newer engines to the ever-growing list of engines we support. I guess having the name rpgmaker.net does cause a bit of the idea that we're only for an older engine and a lot of games do focus on a particular engine/genre, but really, unless your game is below the standards threshold or contains very very mature aspects, we do support all types.

Just getting that information out there so that people know about it is a bit hard at times.

I think it's just a trend thing, myself. Though honestly, JRPGs were always p. niche. Most players really prefer more actiony stuff- platformers in my day, shooters and the like now.

The main problem for JRPGs (at least from what I've seen) is that currently there's still a focus on open world and heavy customization, rather than more linear and heavily characterized stories. This will probably change as people get bored of the new hotness.

You say that, but a lot of the market RN always seems pretty interested in samey stuff.

I think it's not a lack of variety- that's never stopped any entertainment market, and there's a buttload of cool stuff out there- it's just that the market demand is low ATM for a variety of reasons.
The people who post here claim to be game makers. They should be making games instead of posting. RMN dying means the games are alive. No?

Except for the ones who should be playing the games.

Really? I thought it's more like the other way round where JRPGs tend to be more linear and story-oriented than WRPGs (at least in current times).
