2021 Gaming Diary

Hmm this year has been a slow year for me on gaming, recently for May and June

Tomb Raider 2013
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Shadow of the tomb raider

I kind of wished I didn't play this trilogy back to back, because by the end of the third game I was extremely burnt out and didn't care, Lara is a boring and quite frankly a spoiled brat and just completely unlikable.

Final Fantasy IV
I finally played through this one just recently, I loved it, but the story and characters were just so flat, and honestly going to the moon and there being a moon colony of people was just kind of bizarre for a game that took itself seriously to this point.

Honestly unlike last year where I was playing something new almost every month from the start, this year has been considerably slower, I do plan on eventually getting to FF X someday, that game has been on my bucket list for a while, and I own 4 copies of the damn thing lol.

RPGS... you've beaten

Well I can't remember if I posted on this or not, but last year I tackeled Dragon Quest 7 on 3DS and managed to beat it after many looong months, I also finished Dragon Quest XI as well. That's about it.

Working on Dragon Quest 8 on 3DS.

Any League of Legends or DOTA fans?
I'll just be sitting over in the corner as a HotS player awkwardly trying to avoid making eye contact.

Lol you can still join if you want! We don't have anything against HotS or its players. Were trying to build a general gaming community anyway.

What is your discord server. I'm not an english native speaker so if it is a problem with you guys?
I've joined a discord server of my mates on Techgara.
but I'm glad to join with you too.

It won't be no problem at all! Here's the invite link, the name is Bearded Clan but it'll probably change later. Fell free to invite anyone else we'd love to have them too.

Any League of Legends or Dota fans?

Soo me and my friends are wanting to start a small league of legends discord server, so we can have a decently big group without having to really dive into the much larger ones to find new people to play with. Its not just about LoL or Dota 2 its also all about video games in general, collecting, RPGs, and even game creation stuff. Probably say why not join a server with that stuff? I was challenged to try and build our little server into a full small community lol.

(also sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I didn't know whether to put this in general chat or video games or something)

Anyone that is interested I'll send you the invite via PM.

Games with map/level editors

This one may be nit niche and a game that may or may not be your friend's cup of tea. But Postal 2 has its own editor where you can pretty much add anything you want.

Also I would point to all of the Bethesda games, each one has development kits that anyone can use.

My favorite would have to be Roller Coaster Tycoon 2's scenario editor, giving yourself every type of shops, coasters, rides etc and infinite money with a giant map was a lot of fun to mess around with when I was a kid.

Consoles & Favourite Games

NES
Super Mario Bros 3
Still the best 2D Mario game ever made in my opinion, I love replaying this game over and over.
Honorable Mentions: Punch Out, Castlevania, Mega Man 2 and 3.

SNES
Link to the Past
I love this game to death, the first Zelda game I had ever played, the nostalgia and memories with this game for me while I wasn't good at it were great. And to this day I still love the game, probably more since I was actually able to finish it.
Honorable Mentions: Yoshi's Island, Mega Man X2, Super Mario World, Legend of the Mystical Ninja.

Sega Genesis
Sonic 3
Best Sonic game, with the best levels and music in my opinion.
Honorable Mentions: Gunstar Heroes, Golden Axe 3, Phantasy Star IV

Gameboy/Gameboy color
Pokemon Yellow
I was going to put Silver and Gold but I already have Soul Silver, and the only other game I played the shit out of was Yellow, I done a glitched playthrough where I would glitch the game to get certain Pokemon and that was by far the most fun playthrough I did, and this was on an actual cartridge.

Game Gear
Donald Duck Deep Duck Trouble
A very solid platformer, and besides the usual sonic games which weren't great on this system, this one was the game gear game I played the most.

PS1
Spyro 3 Year of the Dragon
I'm a little split on Spyro 2 and 3, but considering I played the absolute shit out of Spyro 3 I'm going to go with this one. You talking about childhood, this game was the definition of my childhood, I still adore this game to this day, and that reignited trilogy has got me hyped big time.
Honorable Mentions: Crash 3 Warped

N64
Ocarina of Time
My favorite game of all time as well, just like Link to the past this game has a ton of great memories held to it for me, and I also think it holds up decently well, but the 3DS version outshines it completely.
Honorable Mentions: Majora's Mask, Mario 64.

XBOX
Morrowind
I haven't played the PC version of this game, but the Xbox version is pretty solid, Morrowind's world is much more interestng than Oblivion and Skyrim's, its so weird and more fantasy like.
Honorable Mentions: Blinx, Oddworld Strangers Wrath

GameCube
Luigi's Mansion
I played the crap out of this game, and still replay it every once and a while.
Honorable Mentions: Wind Waker, Animal Crossing.

PS VITA
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
Hell there was barely anything on this system that really stood out, and this was the way I experienced MGS 2 and 3, and 3 would become one of my favorite games of all time.

WII
Mario Galaxy 2
The best 3D Mario game hands down, the level of creativity is huge in this game despite the reused levels and themes.
Honorable Mentions: Twilight Princess, House of the Dead Overkill

DS
Pokemon Soul Silver
This game is special to me, it helped me through a rough time, and its also probably the best Pokemon game they ever released. For me at least.
Honorable Metnions: Pokemon Platinum, New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario 64 DS, Yoshi's Island DS, Dragon Quest V.

WII U
DKC Tropical Freeze
There wasn't much for this system either, but this game really blew my socks off when I played it, one of the best platformers ever made in my opinion.
Honorable Mentions: Mario 3D world, Wind Waker HD

Switch
Mario Odyssey
I played Breath of the Wild, I loved Breath of the wild, but I ultimately loved Odyssey more.

PC
Roller Coaster Tycoon 2
Good lord this was another game the defined my childhood, there was a time where I would come home from school and play it from 4pm all the way till bed time. That's how addicted I was. Still love the game to this day.

The systems I left out where, Xbox one, PS4, PS3, PS2, mostly because these are systems I own and have a lot of games for, but still are in the middle of collecting for. I'll update this when I play more games and have more time to think about it.

Post yourself thread!

This one's from a few years ago, only thing that's changed is less hair and my beard is gone.

Anybody got tips on how to stay focused on making projects?

One of my major flaws is not staying focused, I keep getting caught up in my thoughts and other things that I tend to drop things and focus on other things.
This is one of the reasons why I haven't finished a single game yet, its not that I don't have interest in the game I'm working on, because I always desperately want to make a game, and have a clear vision on what I want to do. But can't stay focused enough to work on the game.

Anybody got any pro strats or tips to help stay focused? I will greatly appreciate it.

[Poll] What is your favorite Final Fantasy game?

Soo after a lot of playing and stuff, I think I'm gonna add IV and XIII to my favorites list as well. IV's story is great, and I love the moment when Cecil becomes a paladin. And XIII may have started off annoying as hell, but I'm actually starting to grow quite fond of the cast in XIII, Snow even got better in my opinion. And the story while is a bit out there and complicated, I actually find pretty good. The battle system is also a ton of fun.

My only problem with XIII though is that I'm stuck at the first Barthandelus fight, it feels like that battle just ends whenever it wants to and its a pretty extreme difficulty spike. Its really pissing me off. Anyone care to give me a few tips for that fight, besides grinding?
