[Poll] Why some people think FF8 was the best FF ever?

Most FF fans think FF7 was the best, it's the most popular FF ever with many sequels and even an animation. But there are some people who think FF8 was the best.
I think people who think FF8 was the best have a different perspective of how a game should be.
Personally I am on FF8 side, but I am not sure why

numbers dose not show up in a game (need help)

Well, its quite a strange problem, I recently downloaded Homework selesman, the only problem I have is that I can't see any number or word with number attached to it, for example I could see "double strike" in skill menu. but after using it multiple times I can't see it's name anymore (its now "+1 double strike")

I test the game on another PC and it worked fine even without the fonts in the font folder of the game. I don't even know how to approach the problem, where should I look to find the solution :S.

Edit: probably the problem created because in my country we write from left to right.
Problem solved, in "regional and language option" tab 1 "standard and format" chose English (or any other language that write from right to left ) ,

Treasure cheat, or no treasure chest, that is the question.

Do you think, the whole idea of treasure chest in every explorable area is a good idea? Did you ever wonder why there is a treasure chest in a natural cave or a forest?
There are some instances where treasure chest make sense, like after defeating a dragon, or in a locked room of an abandoned castle.

Does treasure chest have any purpose, other than encouraging player to explore unnecessary places. and what can be the alternative?

I suggest an alternative: Instead of adding treasure chest, make natural resources, for example in a mine/cave I can find rare ores witch I can dig and use in crafting, in a forest I find rare herbs witch I can use to make potions that have permanent effects.

Or even more general question, to what extent should we try to keep realism?


how to use scroll map properly (VX ace)

I dunno what is wrong I tried to use a Scroll map event that follow a moving event, but the moving event stop every 60 frame, (like when the game lag). Both events are parallel. I find a script that can solve this problem, but I want to know how should I use this event.

How do you design a good puzzles?

I hope i chose a good place for posting this
You know, I wanted to add my first puzzle in the game, and i suddenly can't move on, I am sitting on my chair for 18 hour, reading articles about puzzles, searching for good examples, and finally when i decide what should i do, I find the puzzle too easy and meaningless, scraping the whole idea and starting over
I want to add puzzles that need thinking, so that when player solved the puzzle he feels he accomplished something, he feel he is smart. I want the puzzle to have logic, strategy.

Anyone have a hint? How do you come up with a good puzzle? How do you know that puzzle is hard enough?

i want to know how to make an item drop only if you have another item
example, you kill a wolf -> if you have a "skinning knife" -> you receive a "wolf skin". preferably without script

Exp gain based on character level script (need help)

i am sorry if it was answered before, but is it possible to change the linear mechanic of XP of monsters?
for example if i am level 1 and kill a level 20 monster i get 10000 xp but if i am lvl 20 and kill the same monster i get 500
for now (monster level/player level) * base monster experience.

hi, i am 30 year old, who think he is great in everything, but didn't accomplish anything
and my English sucks.
i studied physics, but i like Psychology.
well i nearly finished every game i could (old games) and then i moved to RPG maker to see how other think and to have fun.
when i like something i criticize it, so don't get offended. if you don't like to be criticize just tell me .
i love strategy and RPG games, i hate any game related to my reflex (my reflex is as good as a snail).
and i really hope i can learn a lot of things from you guys.
