Faint Dawn

Hey there! Sorry for the late reply. What level are you trying to fight LIO:R at? I'd recommend being about level 50-52ish. Anything 55 and above will give you...an unpleasant surprise. Beyond that, the only advice I can offer is to attack the arms when they spawn. Their damage adds up FAST.

I don't have a game guide currently, but I'm planning on making one when I get around to the remaster of this project! It'll just be a while, sorry.

Thanks so much though <3

Faint Dawn Review

Hey thanks so much for checking out Faint Dawn and coming back to write a review! I'm glad to hear you appreciated all the custom assets that went into its production. They, by far, took me the longest to make haha.

Exile's Journey

I'm playing through this right now (about 12 hours in) and so far I'm having a blast! The combat system is really good, and the actual use of elemental equipment is refreshing to see.

I'm just about to take on the Wyrm's Peak sidequest...and I have something I'd like to address. The damaging swamp before Wyrm's Peak? Hurts. A lot. The constantly flashing red screen is enough to give me a headache, and I'm not photosensitive. There was no warning for this either. I would suggest either changing the damage floor mechanic to a small noise, make only the character flash red, or at the very least please put a big warning somewhere nearby to let players know that this area WILL flash red very violently.

Beyond that I have no other major gripes. Can't wait to see where the story goes. Thanks for making such a long, captivating game!

EDIT: Okay so I goofed and forgot to give one of my party members the proper boots, so I see now that the screen doesn't flash red if you do this properly. Regardless...still not a great effect. A warning for if you DON'T properly equip yourself would be nice.

Faint Dawn Review

Hi Lobo! I commented on the YT archive of your playthrough, but I figure I should post here as well. Before we begin I want to thank you for again for playing through the entirety of the game despite its flaws. As painful as it was, having you see it through to the end provides valuable feedback to me.

Faint Dawn is my first "big" game, and yes, looking back on it now, it suffers from a LOT of problems. I will admit I spent relatively little time balancing the game, which is where the majority of the problems stem from. The main character having so few skills is ludicrous and makes the battles feel super uninspiring. You're right: the game is 90% spamming your regular attack and grinding enemies that get really old really quickly. There's not much strategy involved in battles beyond choosing your weapon type from one of three options (which, as you noticed, are slightly different from one another but the shops and descriptions don't do a great job of mentioning it). Stats seem fairly arbitrary and the stat raisers are downright baffling in terms of obtaining them and where they're placed. And, in a genre that relies heavily on battling and grinding, these problems add up quickly and make a playthrough very frustrating and boring.

The plot is downright non-existent, yeah. That stems from me being too excited to make an RPG and not spending enough time planning, y'know, the main plot of the game...which is pretty important. There's no incentive for the player to fight the monsters other than 'it's an RPG and that's what you do.'

All-in-all, I agree with your review. While there are parts of the game and snippets of ideas I quite enjoy, the majority of it is just plain bad. However, that being said, your playthrough and review are extremely helpful to me for future games and potential revisions to this one. Seeing the flaws laid out plainly by a third party make it easy for me to note down what works for players and what doesn't. Playtesters are incredibly valuable to creators, and all your feedback is duly heard and noted.

Again, thank you for the Let's Play and the honest review of Faint Dawn!

The Endless Empty

Ordered some pins and a sticker. Thank you!

Also my youtube video is up now. Click for video.

The Endless Empty

White backgrounds are fine yeah. Thanks!

The Endless Empty

Thanks so much! The video is going up on Sunday and I’ll be sure to post a link to it.

The merch looks fantastic too. Would it be alright if I requested some pins/stickers of the in-game character sprites too, and/or some of the protagonist’s various forms? Provided it’s feasible of course.

The Endless Empty

Of course! You can link it back to my deviantart if you'd like, but feel free to use it wherever :)

I feel you re: merch. I use Redbubble for things like stickers. You upload your design, and Redbubble handles the creation of things and ships them out for you. You get paid a small percent of the sale price, but you don't have to make anything, just provide the design!
From the looks of things, Zazzle does the same thing as Redbubble, except you can also choose pins to sell? I haven't used it, but that's what it looks like.

Anyways, if it's too much of a hassle, again, don't worry about it. Thanks.

The Endless Empty

Just finished playing through the game, and I have to say it's a phenomenal adventure. I love the quirky photo backgrounds and characters, the personalities of each, and the struggles everyone faces and tries to overcome. It's a deep, thought-provoking game paired with a fitting soundtrack and surreal visuals. What else can I say but great work!

Not sure if it was intended or not, but just before chapter 3 starts (hidden for spoilers)
when you're in the area with all the doors, I went to the bottom left of the screen and it teleported me past Creation's boss fight (which I hadn't done yet) and past the limousine ride.
If this was intentional please ignore.

Thank you so much for the adventure! I hope you get more exposure because it's a game that deserves a lot. Heck, I even drew some fanart to hopefully garner some more attention from my followers, because I know several of them would love a game like this (http://fav.me/dcs0x5m there's the art).

One last note: do you have any plans for merch? I'd be interested in stickers or small pins with the playable characters on them. No worries if not, but I figured I'd ask :)
