Harvest Moon

I just recently bought the new HM game for Wii, and it got me thinking. Not a lot of my friends play these games, so I was wondering how many people in the RPG crowd do. Basically, I decided I had to make a quick questionnaire about it!

1. Do you like/play harvest moon games?
2. What is your favorite Harvest moon game?
3. Why?
4. On your favorite HM game, who was most often your spouse?

1. Yes, of course.
2. Harvest Moon 64. Tree of Tranquility sure is pretty good though.
3. I don't know. I started with this one, and I always found the most fun in playing it. The festivals felt like they had purpose, the house upgrades were sweet, it was all just amazing I guess.
4. On HM 64, I tended to marry Elli. Why I'm not sure. I guess it was because she was the most housewife-ish. Karen was cool too, except one of the times I tried to marry her, she randomly jumped in the water and swam off, never to be seen again. NO idea what triggered that event...

So, GO!

An attempt at NES music

Well, I plan to be working on an 8 bit NES style game in the near future, and I decided that I would like to try to make as much of the music and soundfx for the game as I could by myself. However, I have never tried to make RPG music before, never mind trying to make it sound NESish.

Basically, I was bored at home, so I thought I would give it a try. The song doesn't really fit anywhere as far as RPG's go, I just wanted to mess around with an NES sound font. So, tell me what you think: http://www.4shared.com/file/96280358/21378480/NesStyle.html (Don't worry, no download required!)

It's only 21 seconds long, and a little repetitive. Like I said though, it was simply 20 minutes messing around with a sound font. I just wanted to see what I could do with it.

Please leave comments, tell me what needs working on, or give me ideas. I'm going to need to get half good at this if I am going to make a decent soundtrack for a game ;)

EDIT: Also, as I just noticed, I should have made one more bar, it ends kind of awkwardly.

New File Uploading Site

A buddy of mine just got a file hosting site started up, so I thought it worthy to be shared. Although I know we aren't supposed to advertise on the site, I feel this is something at least slightly useful for some members. The upload speed is pretty good, and the downloads are immediate (so stop using rapidshare and making people wait 60 seconds before they can download!)

The site is called File Facility, and it can be found here

I find it's a nice alternative to the larger file sharing sites, no waiting, decent speeds, an easy to use layout. It's pretty good in my opinion.

Anyways, I thought it a worthy site to link to.

Vista vs. XP and Formatting Your Computer!

Just a quick thread I thought I would make. Formatting your computer: the quickest and easiest way to delete everything and start anew. How often does everyone here feel that this is necessary? How often do you guys format your computers in their entirity? Do you have a method of backup for when you do this?

Me, well I feel that a format is necessary at any time that I feel a large slow in computer performance that I just can't figure out. That is happening right now. Thus, I have spent the last thirty minutes backing up everything I need to an external hard drive, and I have decided to give Vista a big middle finger. I am going to reformat my laptop to *GASP* XP. I have never tried this with my laptop before (every other time I used the vista disc that came with the laptop) and I am hoping that nothing important will stop working. The main reason I am changing back to XP? Well, I just don't feel that my laptop is as "Vista Ready" as they say it is. IT'S A CELERON 1.6 GHZ! So I say it's time to slap XP on it, and see if I get any boosts in performance (after all, most games have requirements like "1 gig of ram (2 for vista users)") So I am hoping for the best.

Other than the questions asked above, why not discuss the differences between Vista and XP? Have you used both? Did you notice any large differences in performance? Explain.

Please folks, do feel free to discuss while I format!

Search Feature

Why has RMN neglected to use the SMF search function? I mean, it would help others from making duplicate topics and what have you. It's already integrated, and actually, you can already use it right here on rmn. Personally I would love to see it actually included in RMN, but perhaps it's just me.

DS Games!

Ah yes, Nintendo handhelds.

For all of you out there who own DS's, what are your favorite games? What games would you recommend? Are you looking forward to any new games? Please, do discuss. I need more games for my DS, but any time I browse games in a store, I just decide they all look too bland. I really, really need help deciding on some new ones, especially since I will be going on a band trip by bus to California pretty quick. I WILL NEED SOME PORTABLE GAMING!

So in the great words of Counter-Terrorist #1575:

GO GO GO!

Animal Crossing - Wild World

I wanted to make this topic to ask if anyone plays this game on their DS. If so, we should all share our Friend codes and info. That way, we can visit each others towns and such. Personally, I love the game :).

Also, I think both players are required to add each other for it to work, so everyone should add everyone (if anyone even posts that is)

My info:

Friend Code:
4296-7906-2944

Name:
Clayton

Town Name:
Everwood

Free 8bit Sounds!

For any of you out there that enjoy making oldschool, 8bit kinda games, these sounds are for you (I guess).

Basically, I was bored, and decided I would make these wave modulations. All I did was play with frequencies and effects, but I think they sound pretty good. I'm not so sure they would actually be considered an "8bit" sound per say, but whatever. Most of them work best in menus, but use them how you like.

I made more, and called it V2. There are now 12 more sounds, making for a total of 26.

8BIT Sounds 2.0 Download Links:

Media Fire Link
File Factory Link
File Dropper Link
FreeWebs Link (rar)

If you are at work, etc. I recommend the freewebs link, as it is most likely to not be blocked.

Feedback would be appreciated. Also, I need some recommendations from you guys. Tell me what you want, and I will try to make it!

Christmas, how was yours? V 2.0

So, it's not christmas here yet, but I thought I should make this topic considering the talk between everyone who has already had their christmas. So, here is what this topic is about:

+ What did you get for Christmas?
+ What did you give for Christmas?
+ What all did you do for Christmas/How was it?

I will respond to this topic after I actually have my Christmas day, but it looks like it should be a good one so far. Anyways, discuss!

[NEW]The Evolution of RMN

..::The Evolution of RMN::..
...A Journey Back...

RMN 1 SCREEN HAS BEEN ADDED

---Think of this as an early christmas present---

Have you ever wondered what RPGmaker.net looked like before you got here? Well, I sure know I did! So, I decided to look into it, and show everyone what I found. Listed below, are images of the RPGmaker.net domain between Nov.20.2000, and Oct.22.2006. Now, some of these web pages may not be displayed exactly as they are supposed to be (due to css and php errors), but they should do the trick. Onwards we go, to learn of the evolution, of RMN!

Nov.20.2000

A layout I am sure that next to none of us have seen. Having said that, I may be wrong. Clearly RMN has improved since these days. Look at all of the programs they used to support too! WOW! Also, by my guess, WIP was not yet around. He has stated quite a few times that he does not like the affiliate system (which it looks like this page uses). NEXT

May.15.2001

As it would appear, RMN was taken down for an update. How long will it take? No one knows...

Actually, I guess I do! (well, according to the web data I have, anyways...)

And no, I did not check that temporary site (I guess I should have...)

Jun.29.2001

A while later (although the time data could be wrong) and we see this! It says that the site with no frames is incomplete (and likewise, did not work when I tried it), so I used the site with frames. Here is what I got:

I would guess that this was one of the sites that displayed incorrectly. There is that blue bar at the bottom (which appears to have an RMN Crystal in it), and a lot of black space at the top. Weird, but this still gives some perspective on an older RMN.

Sep.25.2001

It would appear that RMN was now under new management (WIP?). Also, they gave some info on the tradgedy of Sept.11.

Nov.30.2001

Quite a different site layout. I actually kind of like it. Anyways, not much to explain on this one, just another one to glance at. Nice to see that we look better than that.

Mar.30.2002

Uh oh, another update. If you guys think that RMN 3 is taking too long, prepare to be surprised (Seriously) these guys had it BAD! So, here we go!

May.26.2002

OH NO! where did all the other text go!? Now all we have is a black screen!

Jul.22.2003

Yes, that's right. More than a year later, and this is the update: A white screen, and a broken image link. (I am guessing it was just not displaying properly, and that it probably said "Coming soon!" as an image)

Aug.1.2003

A little less than a month later and, OMG, what an update! The background is now black! Moving on...

Sept.29.2003

LIARS! They told us soon! Delays suck. Anyways, this one only gets better:

Nov.18.2003

AHAHAHA! SUPPORTING GW!?!?!?!? WHAT?!?!?!? Seriously though, what the hell?

Anyways, it must have been frustrating. Half a month later, and all that everyone who is waiting gets is... another line of text...

Nov.27.2003

...I'm not sure what happened here... Moving on:

Dec.17.2003

Wow, ANOTHER LINE OF TEXT! On the up side, at least there was now a way for users to get involved, as well as hope that the site was, in fact, coming.

Feb.7.2004

Yup, you guessed it. More text, but now with a link to the misaos. By the way, back then, the misaos looked like this:

Neat, huh?

Apr.4.2004

My birthday! Not only my birthday, but the best one ever! (it was 04,04,04)
Anyways, looks like the forums were acessable at least.

May.8.2004

Lol, wow, still being worked on. I wonder how many people just gave up on it ever coming back. Seriously, if you ever do this to us WIP... I swear to god!

Aug.25.2004

Well, clearly they are coming! It's not much, but at least people can have a ray of hope to look at... for now, because:

Sep.2.2004

GOD DAMNIT! Everything they had just seen, was now gone. Hopes and dreams, crushed. There go another 50 or so users.

Sep.20.2004

If that last one didn't make people leave, this probably would have. Back to the old black screen. I sure hope that the image worked back then...

Nov.22.2004

...Come back later??? HOW MUCH LATER! I hope the point is getting through to everyone that the wait for RMN 3 really isn't THAT BAD!

Jan.11.2005

Well, at least there is a nice "Coming soon" image...

Mar.5.2005

Oh, but it's gone now...

Nov.8.2005

Yay, now we have a nice blue link that says coming soon. It takes us to the forums (I would post a picture, but I KNOW that the forums don't display properly. All you need to know was that it was still Simple Machine forums.)

Jan.26.2006

YES! A nice coming soon image, with a logo and everything! This is good news, and is also the last screen I am going to show!

It wasn't long after that RMN V1 was released, and the site began to bloom. I would post some images of it, but the site isn't displaying quite right. I know, however, that WIP could post them (there are some in his images folder :))

Anyways, I hope some of you enjoy this little article. It took way to long to make. Also, I hope it shows that the wait for RMN3 has been, well, rather miniscule.

One last thing. Please remember that this was all through research. I have no real evidance that all of these dates are exact, and it is quite possible that things could have ocurred in between the following dates. Also, remember that some images may look different than the site did at the time.

RMN v1 SCREEN:

I seem to remember a lot of people asking what RMN1 looked like, and I really wanted to post a screen of it. However, none of the screenshots I could find were displaying quite right. However, I found one that was, and felt it necessary to add to this list. Thus: RMN V1:

Yes, it's in a higher resolution. Get used to it, the site wouldn't even fit in my browser at 800X600 (which is what all of the other screens ar at).
