Wow, that's a glitch then, I rarely used mine, but I'm pretty sure it was a menu only option. Then again, I only ever went into the mine without a torch once, so it may just be it was the combination of factors that did you in.

Isn't that only in combat? Warp is an outside combat skill and should work to get you home. Worse case scenario, either walk out or just mine that'll use up your stamina and when you hit zero you'll warp home anyway. You'll only lose one day that way.

@qin93 Actually amateurs close one eye when aiming, have a look at profession and Olympic archers, they keep both eyes open, it allows for a cleaner shot. Before you ask, yes I used to shoot. However if she was born with one then I imagine she'll have learned to compensate.
