Fuck Christmas

My family get-togethers have always been rather tense. Everybody used to get together at my grandmother's place; if you play my game Postcards, you'll probably get the idea of what that would entail. She's passed on now, and my mom's house is too messy to accommodate visitors, so for the past few years I've been having a sedate and chill Christmas at home.

And yknow, now that I'm an adult and I can have my own Christmas in my own house with my partner and I cooking a meal together, I feel pretty good about it. That said, we're spending this Christmas with my partner's family, but I can vibe with that!

I'm not religious, and I don't dig commercialism and/or vapid consumerism, but I think rituals have their place. When you can set a day that is an excuse to eat a bunch of fancy food and do something nice for your loved ones, I think that's cool.

Matt Taylor lands probe on comet, but is now (in)famous for tacky shirt.

There's been much worse incidents of misogyny happening recently so I'm not super fussed about this, but it's still a dumb idea to wear a shirt like that to the office.

cheesy arts (concept art for horror/fantasy game)

I'm a fan! I dig the messiness and the shading, it gives an uncanny feeling. Your work reminds me a little bit of the old JB Harold detective games by Riverhill Soft. I look forward to seeing these in a project!

Yeah, sure! Regardless, I look forward to seeing how your project turns out!

I mulled it over and was gonna offer a hand, but I see Mac has beaten me to the punch! Good on ya.

If for some reason you need to split the load, keep me in mind. Otherwise, kick some ass!

Horror Design

In my opinion, some of the most interesting horror has elements of incomprehensibility. If something is disquieting or disturbing but not overly-explained, this allows the opportunity for player's mind to ponder. This is why some Lynch works are so good.

Deadly Premonition: What is 'The emissary of the red world?' Why do giant hellhounds fall from sky at midnight? I don't need an explanation! The events are startling and a joy to witness.

Map out your story in meticulous detail. Then, permanently hide some of these details from the player. It's effective!

Also, they didn't have random encounters which was nice - just invisible enemies at choke points. The interaction with the map was also really neat and I loved jumping over people and climbing walls. XD

The enemies were visible but stationary, right? I distinctly remember trying to jump over a crab in Falls Basin and being disappointed that I had to fight. Unless I'm forgetting a part of the game that featured invisible enemies? It's been twenty years :O

I'm just Speechless...

Going in, I thought the article would touch upon the idea that people still choose to live in a state of mass-hysterical fear of 'the other', marginalizing innocent women or non-whites by marking them as witches or terrorists respectively.

But this article seemed a little rambling, uninformed and confused.
