[mafia] Spy vs. Mafia II Day 3

SIGNUPS!

This is the same setup as the first game except, different items (less OP), and a very important addition to the rules. We shall call this the "each-other" rule, for no particular reason.

Minimum of 12 players needed or the setup probably won't work.

RULES:

Each game consists of several town aligned citizens and a small group of scum aligned mafia killers. The players must catch and lynch the killers in order to win. This game follows rules which are modified from the typical mafia.

BASIC RULES IN EFFECT:

1. Do not share any PMs from the moderator AND DO NOT SHARE CHAT LOGS (My big mistake from the first game). Your private messages must be kept secret. You may describe what was in them, but directly quoting any portion of them will result in mod-kill.

2. The game is divided into day phases of 48 hours and night phases of 24 hours. There will be no talking on the main thread during night phase. Members sharing private chats may talk at any time.

3. No talking to other players outside of Mafia, and NO PMING! You can PM me, but that's it. Obviously, the no PM rule is on the honor system but if I find out, there will be consequences.

4. Each day, players discuss who is most likely to be mafia and vote for one person to be voted off of the game. Voting follows standard rules. Votes are to be presented in the thread, using the following format: #Lynch pianotm. If you for any reason you change your mind, use the following tag: #Cancel Nolynch votes are not permitted and will be ignored. Anyone choosing Nolynch votes for him or herself. Vote is majority, not plurality. If there is a tie, I will cast the tie-breaking vote using a dice roll.

5. You must post daily. If you're not talking, you're not playing the game. If you're not playing the game, then why are you here?

6. No editing posts. Only the moderator may edit his posts, and he can also edit you right into dead chat.

7. No dead posting. If you're dead, you're dead.

ADDITIONAL RULES:

1. In addition to town and scum, there is a special role called agent. When the game begins, the number of agents will be exactly equal to the number scum.

2. Win condition: For town to win, all scum must be lynched and at least one agent must survive. For scum to win, all agents must be lynched and at least one scum must survive.

3. This game has items. These items are designed with the Spy vs. Spy flavor in mind.

ABOVE ALL:

Remember that this is just a game. The Spy vs. Spy comic strip was written as a comic about friendly rivalry. Take a lesson from Black and White: no matter what happens, laugh it off and come back for more.

THIS POST WILL SELF-DESTRUCT IN FIVE SECONDS. (no it won't.)

[SCRIPTING] [C#] [UNITY] I swore I would never beg for help, but I can't make this game on my own.

For IGMC 2018, I am remaking an old project. I never abandoned this project, but I wanted to use it for IGMC and in keeping with the rules, I decided to remake it from scratch in an entirely new project.

Across the Universe

Disclaimer: Before you say anything, this was not inspired by The Martian. Literally everyone I've explained the concept to has compared this to The Martian. I was writing the story for this before the movie even came out, or before I even knew a book existed. This was inspired somewhat by events in science news surrounding the successful development of the VASIMR engine and the Raptor Reusable Booster. It was inspired predominantly by the song Across the Universe by the Beatles. Come to think of it, the news stories about SpaceX and Ad Astra Rocket Company may have had big influence on a lot of the creative media we're getting about Mars. I refuse to see the movie or read the book now for fear that it influence this story.

Genres: Science-Fiction, Puzzle, Resource Management.

Story: Christina wasn't supposed to be the first person to set foot on Mars. She was supposed to be the third. Unfortunately, she was the only one that survived the crash. Alone on Earth's most enigmatic neighbor, she has to learn to survive. The ship survived the crash and has everything she needs to survive, and if she can, run experiments that other crew members had been expected to run. With a 1 hour, 20 minute lag in communications from Earth to Mars, she's never been more alone, until she receives a signal from someone just as alone as she is. Someone able to communicate without the lag caused by distance, but they're not on Mars. They're much farther away than Christina ever expected.

This voice on the radio isn't a prerecorded message. It's a person that can respond in real time, if Christina can learn to understand them.

I apologize but there is no way I can provide three screenshots at this stage. The best I can do is one screenshot and two busts.

Tiles are made from images of the Endeavor and Discovery Space shuttles.

==============================================================================================================
==============================================================================================================

I am mostly competent in the basics of C#. I have written a character controller that works nicely and that I really like (It has a minor annoying quirk with diagonal movement [When you stop, the sprite snaps to cardinal directions], but I can live with it). HUDs and menus aren't really hard to make. More complex systems such hunger, thirst, sanity, and fatigue are a bit beyond me to date. On the Unity Asset Store, I acquired a decent hunger and thirst system, but I really don't know where to begin with a sanity and a fatigue system, and to be honest, I'd like someone else's opinion on the hunger and thirst system I have before I dedicate my time to it.

Basically, I need someone with more experience in C# than I have.

[Mafia] Purgatory: A Mafia Game

It's simple. This is a vanilla mafia, with no powers, with one exception: everyone is a Dead Ringer:

A Dead Ringer is a player that when lynched, they may continue posting in the thread and participating as if they were still alive. They simply lose their ability to vote. Scum will not be able to post on the main thread upon death, but they will be able to post on their night chat as if they hadn't died.

About Mafia
Mafia is a forum game of informed minority (the Mafia) vs an uninformed majority (the Town). Each player is secretly assigned a team at the start of the game. Play starts in "day" phase, where town discusses who's likely to be mafia and votes against them, while the mafia tries to direct suspicion elsewhere. Then during "night" phase, the thread is closed and mafia discuss privately who to murder at night. Play alternates between these two phases until either town wins by catching all the mafia, or the mafia wins by outnumbering town.

- Each player gets a single vote to use during the day that they may change as many times as they wish to vote for any player
- Vote with eg #lynch OzzyTheOne, and if you change your mind you can #cancel and vote for someone else later
- When a majority of players are voting for a certain player, that player is "lynched" at the end of the day.
- We'll start with 48 hour days and 24 hour nights and go from there -- I'll provide countdown clocks always
- This is an open setup. If there 15 or more players, there will be 4 scum. If there are 12-14, there will be 3 scum. Fewer than 12, and there will be 2 scum.

Rules lawyering fine print
Do not:
- Edit your posts
- Be dishonest in interactions with the moderator
- Contact any player in or outside of the game about the game unless specifically allowed by your role, and when allowed, only do so in the specific manner allowed
- Do anything that would be considered cheating
- Quote PMs for the moderator or take a screen capture of it (paraphrasing is fine)
- Analyze the mechanics of a PMs for the moderator in comparison to other players, eg, "the fourth word of my role PM is 'town,'" or "my PM was sent at 11:23, when was yours?"
- Talk about the game outside of the topic
- Sabotage your own side, even if your teammates are morons
- Use cryptography
- Use steganography (eg small or invisible text to attempt to avoid detection)
- Use confirmed randomness

Do:
- Post actively, there is a five daily post minimum (that's day phase, not actual days).
- Let the moderator know if you won't be around

For violations, there are penalties.

So, preventing catastrophic oil spills is a bad thing?

Is there Something Wrong with me? Am I just not a good dev?

You know me. Or at least, after all this time, I hope most of you know about how I react to certain things. In discussions, I can overreact, get impassioned, and sometimes cross certain lines of decorum and politesse. All of us can become like that to one extent or another. I'm not asking about heated discussions. One thing that you should know is that I take criticism of my work directly, and with full acceptance. There are times when someone will criticize me for one point or another that I feel is purely subjective and that I don't agree with and will state my disagreement, but even then, I don't get offended by the criticism in question.

Earlier today, there was a criticism of my IGMC game that has prompted me to ask this question. The criticisms made me quite insecure. It started with a thorough derision and ridicule of my game page on itch.io and continued through 15 minutes of playing. S/he didn't even give the first dungeon a chance and based how s/he criticized my game page, I actually doubt s/he would have given my game a chance, regardless. Included in the criticisms where my bland artwork and my bullshit music choices that were putting x/er to sleep. The final verdict was to get this shit the fuck out of here. Looking in the comments, there were also comments about how my game is particularly bad because it seems like a troll game, but then acts like it's serious, and so just looks stupid.

Now, the worse of this is that this all comes from people whose opinions are well known and respected by this community. So, I can't help but wonder now, am I really that incompetent of a maker? Am I simply overreacting or is there something about my games that just makes them terrible? I wonder if it should even be up on the IGMC game list because if it's really that awful, should I even bother continuing to compete? The derision of my game page hurt more than anything else. I really didn't react too well to the streamer making fun of my inspiration for the game. Was I wrong to include it? Should I be writing my game pages differently?

Beginnings and Endings: How to Write the Hardest Parts of your Story.

This topic is to cover the suggestions of everyone who's ever found him or herself in this quandary.

For my own experiences, I'll start with endings, since I usually find them much easier. The real problem here is that we tend to keep writing even after we've reached our ending. The audience genuinely doesn't have to have every single loose end tied up or every plothole closed. Attempting to do so can cause the story to outlive its welcome.

Beginnings are always the hardest for me, but lately, I've managed to get my stride. I no longer introduce the story. I either simply open by giving a description of the main character and going about his or her opening routine, or I simply throw the reader in cold turkey, letting the reader learn about the world gradually as the story progresses.

What other methods have worked for you and what advice would you give to story writers having trouble with these aspects of their stories?

This is officially the most stupid thing I've read all day.

[Mafia] The Exorcism of Mafiaville (GAME OVER)

The Exorcism of Mafiaville
pianotm and Jeroen_Sol

A midnight stroll was perfect. The stars were shining, and the night desert air was cool. She took a sip of cola as she leaned into your shoulder, turning your walking into more of a stumbling gait. You could smell the whiskey mixed with her soda. It was a small town. Looking up, you could see millions of stars. It was a beautiful night; a perfect night. Then as you turn down the road back to her house, you see Mrs. Willow’s door agap. That was odd. She was never up this late. It was half past twelve. You walk up to the door and your girlfriend clutches your arm. “What are you doing?”

You look at her. She’s not afraid. She’s clearly amused by what she sees as recklessness.
“I’m just making sure everything’s okay. It’s the middle of night and there’s school in the morning.”

You knock on the door and shout to see if Mrs. Willow is okay. When there’s no answer, you step inside.

Your girlfriend says, “Come on! This is trespassing. You’re going to be so embarrassed when she catches you.”

You ignore her and call for Mrs. Willow again. You don’t have to go far. In the living room, there is a huge puddle of blood in the middle of the floor. You look up to the middle of the ceiling and see her. She’s been nailed to the ceiling, multiple nails in her arms and hands, in her ankles and feet. Blood dripped down from her forming the puddle on the floor. Your girlfriend sees her next. Surprisingly, she doesn’t scream. She also can’t look away.

One by one, every night, people died like that. On the third night, a man rode in on a motorcycle. He dressed and acted like some movie cowboy. He went to speak to the police and now for some reason, they’ve been letting him into every crime scene. If this doesn’t stop, the whole town’s going to be in a panic.

Vanilla Town PM

As you go about your daily routine, the strange man that wandered into the town the other day dismounts his motorcycle, tips his hat to you and walks into the bar. You wonder what his deal is when there is a commotion just up the street. You run up to see what is going on when you see a young woman has wandered out of the desert. She’s dressed in rags, and clearly dehydrated. The stranger shows up next to you. He stares at the girl intensely, as if he was trying to read her mind. She gazes back at him, but unlike him, her expression is blank. It’s enough to make you wonder what designs this fellow has on this girl. It’s been clear to a lot of people that he has something to do with the mysterious deaths around town. They may have started before he showed up, but there was no doubt he showed up because of them. Now there’s this girl, clearly in trouble, wandering out from the desert, and he’s giving her a look like he’s a hawk and she’s a field mouse. No good will come of this.
