Bringing Back a Potential RM Renaissance

I appreciate 2k-2k3's (and the culture of the era at the time) simplicity. The software limitations at the time meant people weren't bogged down by the compulsion to slap on a dozen plugins, and most of the time all one could really lean in on for your game was story and vibes.

It was like high-tech fanfiction.

I'll expound based on what I recall:

It wasn't finished, or at least the version I played wasn't. The game was inspired by LinoG's Destiny's Call, removing the hunger management mechanic and crude humor. It tells a generally more straight-faced isekai story of a character and his friends from a medieval-looking world being transported to and scattered across a more fantastical medieval one, where the main character's objective in the demo build was just to find his friends.

I generally only floated around the communities RPG Arena/Devscape, Sky Tower Games and RPG2knet, so I assume I found the thing there.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Learning pixel art. The body proportions of the RTP sprites from VX onwards have not been my cup of tea. I'd work with templates, but a lot of popular templates work with three or more tones of a color, and I don't want to worry too much about shading at this point, so I built my own base and limiting shades to two-three tones max.

2.5x resolution on the left, 1x resolution on the right. I am loving how Aseprite can upscale lossless, btw.

Not really very readable at 1x zoom on MZ, but I really wanted to make sure the total width did not exceed the maximum 48px MZ operates with. Might look better on 2x. I can't seem to get that thing working on my MZ though, even on a blank project.

How do you even draw hands on these things

You caved! The world is suddenly a little better.
What did I cave? No one asked me for this!

Oh wait, I was thinking of MV. Still, an "improved" version of SSP is absolutely good news. Best of luck! I'll give the demo a spin later today after work.

How did I not run into any glitches???

Quite a bit of luck, I wager. We kind of let some of the problems go because overall the game kind of sort of functional and we had a deadline to meet. This build was presented with people from the team on the floor as well so we kind of just walked them through it as best as we could.

Granted, that isn't going to fly in this case. Still! We're always glad to hear people are trying our game out. Thank you!

Glow Review

Thanks so much for the review. As rushed as this was, we're plenty proud of this one.

I played a somewhat earlier version that had a number of bugs, so I held off making a review back then. Nevertheless, I would wholly concur with the conclusion.

Man, I am really sorry about not getting the fixes done. I honestly don't like using Stencyl anymore, and I don't really remember what does what in our code anymore.

I rung up the guy that did most of the code for help, and he's proposed to just rebuild the game on another engine entirely. We actually meant to do this years ago; the current build you see was built in around a month or so, which is why the characters are uncoloured and as sketchy as they are. We really, really want to make a better build of this. We've only just started coordinating on it though, so nothing's concrete yet. We'll get back to you all when something takes shape. If not, well, we'll try fixing this one as well.

Oh man. It sounds like I uploaded the exhibit build. The autoreset was put in there so we didn't have to manually restart the game every time someone finished playing. I'll have to re-build the game once I find the old project file!
So, how is it going?

Found the project file! I have not used Stencyl in years though, so this may take a bit to fix. I will post a new build as soon as I can though!

OK, never mind. I got around to playing it, and I have this question to ask: is this supposed to be a final area of the game? Was I supposed to fall in there?

Because absolutely nothing happens there if you do fall. You can't click on the glowing triangles, and you can't seem to advance the game in any other way.

The Student is supposed to suffer from an injury after the fall, so your chain becomes useless and you'll tend to trip every now and then while walking. Try to keep moving forward and the story should continue! We're pretty sure we ironed out all the bugs in this one. Were you able to meet the Teacher?
