SBESTER'S PROFILE

I've been an active member for quite a few years now. I started my RMN career by releasing the Eden Legacy Trilogy of games (each entry took 4 months of nonstop work) within one year, and I've gradually shifted to creating other games as well. I now have 3 flagship series: Eden Legacy, Fragile Hearts, and Mafiosi (being remade for commercial release as Crime Opera). I'm pretty much solely focused on the Crime Opera series of visual novels right now, as my band and job currently take up most of my free time.

Currently working on
-Crime Opera Trilogy (Mafiosi 1, 2, & 3 edited, with all original resources)
-It's a secret...
Crime Opera II: The Floo...
The kids have grown up, and they're becoming quite dangerous.

Shooting is pretty much what criticism is all about. People wouldn't even care if it isn't featured. If my own game is criticised to this point, i would improve at it rather than shoot back. While i know you are pissed that there are people who are shooting this game, this is what criticism is all about. It's a harsh world out there. What would the world be without harsh criticism?

Though I must say, this kind of criticism just for this game is really unnecessary, since the author has pretty much moved on to other things and is an old game per say. He won't come back, really. So these people are really shooting at the wall. Doesn't hurt to voice out though, of course.

I have found it quite peculiar he hasn't returned here, I'm sure he will one day though, and he'll have a lot of reading to do lol.

I won't lie though, I'm shocked at the backlash this game received as well. I thought Fable of Heroes was much more deserving of the criticism (damn you, slow walk speed!). But seriously, constructive criticism isn't the main feature of this discussion.

Actually, at the time it was first featured, the game page's wall was filled with ONLY positive comments and the reviews were both 4/5. The staff had no reason to believe any of this would happen.
People were overwhelmingly supportive of Hitler too before he started subjugating Europe and killing Jews

You completely missed my point.

Legendary Legend Review

There is some extreme hate in this topic, guys. Let's calm it down.

yeah so many people enjoyed it that's why there is an overwhelmingly negative response and dozens of topic pages across the forum discussing how poor a decision it was to feature it

Wow, someone has a point and now we're just gonna attack his game in retaliation?

What the hell happened here?

the author takes responsibility for making a mediocre and not very funny game; the site takes responsibility for featuring it. not too hard to do......

The community takes responsibility for never being content with anything that goes on here.

Legendary Legend Review

I've played a little bit of it, and while I don't find it all that funny, and the characters seem kind of the same... the cutscenes were still somewhat amusing somehow.

Reactionary reviews are fine. Almost every game here seems to have them. I don't particularly like the high horse attitude though. I realize some people put more effort into their games than others, or maybe they just have more experience with the programs.... but tossing around things like "this person obviously doesn't know what constitutes good game design", implying like you're above it all... it just makes you sound like a jackass.

I'm not trying to single out tardis, as I've seen this countless times before. This is just another fine example of it, and it's hard to take it seriously when I'm sure the reviewer came into the experience wanting to dislike it (as most of you seem to believe as well). I wish it would stop, but that won't happen. We should just ignore this kind of phenomena in the future and try the games for ourselves.

Eden Legacy II: Children of Eden Review

I'm a bit worried about the length of EL3 atm, but we'll see how it goes. It is a lot more like the first game with a world map and different continents to explore, however, it isn't as free roaming as the first and second games. I'm going to give it two endings, each with their own final mission.

Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis Review

Damned good review. You could have stood to highlight the better aspects of the game a bit more, but after all the 5/5 endless praise of the other reviews, I can see why you didn't.

3.5 is a great score for any game on here and I'm still excited to play this when I have the time (despite my dislike of the original, which just lacked coherence overall).

Eden Legacy II: Children of Eden Review

Awesome, thanks for reviewing!

I think this is a very fair score, and you really do a fine job pointing out the game's major flaws. I personally feel that the game started out pretty strong in terms of dungeon design, and then faded back into lazy maze-like caverns found in the first game. I think that perhaps this was because I lost interest in the ugly prisonworld of Valhalla, and yearned to be done with it (also the reason there was no final boss lol). I could list a bunch of excuses, like end of term for my masters program, wanting to make my 4 month development deadline, or whatever... but mainly I just ran out of steam a bit. Nevertheless, I will be sure to apply your issues to making a better version when I release the trilogy collection.

Overall, I agree with everything in this review, which leads me to believe that the most critical issues are the most obvious ones. It should make improving it much easier on me, especially looking at the main points you listed ( I definitely need to address the story issues, as sometimes minimalist dialogue can ruin ideas for a coherent plot lol).

Retro Quest Review

Good review! I actually put this on the backburner after dying right at the start but I plan to give it my full attention when I have the time. (Damned 2k3 battles with their stalling).
