RPG Maker Beginner Tutorials

Hey, guys. I just wanted to share this series of RPG Maker tutorials that I'm working on. The tutorials are being made using RPG Maker MV, but I am hoping to make sure that the bulk of the series provides knowledge that can be transferable between the previous versions of the software, with the exception of a few things, such as plugin usage.

Obviously, being a small channel, and one that doesn't focus on RPG Maker (or have a relatively sizable audience to begin with), I need to look to other methods to get the word out and I figured that being one of the longest running communities, and one that I've lurked for years, I'd like to share it here to get more eyes on it and maybe help more people.

Currently, I only have one video up and plan on making more, but I am looking for viewer participation as well. In the first video, I provide a homework assignment to create a new map and ask that viewers share their maps with me.

Obviously, you don't have to be a newbie to join in, and the first video contains information that is super basic, but if you know anyone who is interested in checking out RPG Maker, I'd appreciate it if you could pass the word on.

I plan to upload the next video this week, but if I do not, it will be no later than Friday of next week because I want to take my time and make sure these are videos anybody can follow. I don't have a set release schedule for the videos either as I've just been working on trying to get eyes on it for viewer participation, but if a few folks participate, I may speed up the creation.

This looks pretty nice. I like the creativity going into that. It's rare to see a place called "The Hive" being used almost so literally these days lol. I like how it also has the honey oozing out and isn't just in the shape of a beehive

That's very cool looking. I think the only thing that kind of bothers me is the perfect circle shape on that (torture rack?) thing. The perspective feels slightly off that way because you're seeing everything from top down at an angle, but that one spot very much directly from above it rather than at an angle. I love your character design and environment design though. Very nice looking.

[RMMV] [RMVX ACE] Is there a good reason to jump from VX Ace to MV?

Is there any documentation somewhere that tells us more about the library for MV though, like Microsofts MSDN or Unity's scripting knowledgebase? I would probably be comfortable making the jump to MV if I knew exactly what I was looking to use.
Are you familiar with scripting in VX Ace? The MV code is setup in a nearly identical way.


Thanks for the response. When I got home, I also found the documentation in MV that explains the default library for MV also, so that'll be a good start, and with a few Youtube videos to get me started, I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out a little better.

Also, I was able to answer my own question about if there is a fullscreen option. Rather than Alt+Enter like previous versions allowed you to do, I found F4 works just fine for that too, so I'm pretty pleased now that I know about that lol.

Thanks for all of your input, guys. Also, if you've got further thoughts, don't hesitate to keep discussing it because it's interesting to see everyone's viewpoints on it.

[RMMV] [RMVX ACE] Is there a good reason to jump from VX Ace to MV?

I own 2k3, xp, vxa and mv lol. I've just been trying to justify the use of it because right now, I haven't been entirely too pleased with it, personally. The in-editor tools are amazing, don't get me wrong, but every time I even think of trying to script for it, I'm at a loss as to where to start with it.

I was also highly disappointed that alt+enter doesnt go into fullscreen. Does it go fullscreen?

Feeling incredibly burnt out after finishing my last game. I started working on something else a couple of months ago but I haven't touched it in about a month and I feel more and more like I've hit my creative ceiling.

I think I need a few months away from the game-make.


take a break, play some games, relax, read the feedback from your current game and get inspiration naturally that way. If it doesn't come back, then don't force yourself because it's never fulfilling enough if you have to push through it.

The sunray overlays on their sample maps are pretty obnoxious, especially when you scroll through them and see the exact same overlay on each sample map.

Ace is better in almost every way.

MV seems to only offer the option for non PC exportation and I have heard that this features isn't implemented very well.


I heard the same. And honestly, I've had so many issues in the past just setting up everything to try to test exporting it to android, just as an example, that I've pretty much given up that aspect, but that's only because I've got limited time and cannot be bothered with it lol.
