X-Noir

Thanks Shinozaki. The case logs don't update after case 3 so get used to that being your objective. Hope you enjoy the rest of the game.

Twin Peaks inspired adventure game

I'd like to combine all the elements of my favorite visual novel adventure games. The clue gathering and interrogation elements of Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk, the logic puzzles of Layton and the set piece puzzles of 999/Zero Escape. There will also probably be some classic adventure game elements as well as some experimental stuff (like the anxiety meter). Right now everything is a possibility while we try to figure out what the game is going to be.

X-Noir Review

Thanks for the review Sol. I found it pretty on point. Despite its many shortcomings, I like the world and characters that X-Noir spawned and would be interested in a potential sequel or even remake where we address many of the story/gameplay issues. A game like this would definitely have been better suited to the adventure/puzzle game genre (Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton).

I think we could have done a better job hinting at some of the plot points earlier in the game. Like with most of our games, while we had the ending already in mind, we weren't sure how we were going to get there. I almost feel like our games are first drafts. If we went back and remade them (like the Motw remake we're talking about) we'd have a strong foundation to work with and be able to tell a stronger story overall since we know the major plot points we need to hit.

I'm glad you enjoyed it overall. A 3.5 is probably higher than I'd have given it. I always enjoy reading your reviews since you just focus on the parts you find most interesting (the characters/story typically ) and gloss over the other stuff that is inoffensive. It certainly makes for more indepth reviews that we don't usually get. I hope you'll continue to follow our work in the future. :)

X-Noir

That's fine. I was ready to just let the game fall into obscurity. It's a nice surprise to see some people taking an interest in it again. Cashmere also sent me a video of him playing it earlier today.

That sounds promising. I'd be interested to hear what you think.

I'm a total nervous wreck and I need emotional support.

You need to level up more before you can finish an impressive game. Grind experience points by making tiny shitty games.

Pretty much. Maybe you're first game will be amazing but probably not. I woudln't put so much pressure on yourself. Otherwise you'll get anxious about making it and it will never get done. Jus do it!

Also I recommend checking out the Extra Credit series that Corfasius linked.

[Poll] Dealing With The Lure Of The New

Despite having complete a RPG epic (and now discussing remaking it) I still find it difficult to focus on one project. If I get the sense that the project is not going in a good direction I'll halt progress. While it's good to reevaluate before you're too far down the rabbit hole it can also kill a project.

At the moment, I'm juggling a few game ideas but I'm trying to focus on one project. I find it's much easier to work on smaller projects since I can usually finish them before the initial lure is gone and they're small enough that I don't get anxious that I'm making a 12-month plus commitment to something I might regret working on later.

Based on my experience, if you have a flash of insight for a game idea, it's good to write it down but not act on it immediately. You could have a few projects floating around but stay focused on one at a time. I've noticed that if I focus too much attention on a side project then it becomes that much more difficult to continue working on my main one.

I'm blaming the holiday for my lack of focus but afterwards I really need to get production started on my new game. My plan is to start working on it as soon as I wake up each morning before anything can distract me with other thoughts. If I'm thinking about or discussing another project all morning chances are I won't have the willpower to work on my current project in the afternoon.

Hey ArtBane, I can't speak on behalf of Stephen, but this one was a major clean up of the demo.

So while newer versions are on the horizon, they will likely not have as many changes for now so you should try this one out for your re-evaluation.

Download 20.1 though as that one has an important skill change for Orphan that should moderately alter the flow of battles.

Thanks I'll do that

Hi Elder. I plan on evaluating the game again now that you've made several improvements. Is there another version in the works or is this one good to test for now?
