Rpg Maker game tear-jerkers.

Vacant Sky a thousand times

Obviously saying anything is a huge spoiler but suffice it to say that episode 2 had me bawling like a baby. Movies and games don't really make me emotional but holy fuck does this game make crushing your heart into an art form

T Review

The point of being able to comment on a review is to discuss it and its merits. This debate isn't pointless. I'm not debating for the sake of debating, so stop being condescending and trying to dismiss my points without a valid argument.

I'm not arguing that you're not entitled to your opinion, so stop using that as a defense. You're just as entitled to think what you want about this game as I am. My problem isn't with your opinion, it's with your review. Your metric of scoring is ambiguous and contradictory and you haven't addressed my point regarding Quintessence's gameplay, and how it must be scored because it is an aspect of the game.

If reviewers are capable of arbitrarily dismissing aspects of a game when they aren't valid (there are valid cases, such as graphics in a text adventure), then it completely undermines the review system.

T Review

On the same note, there's a difference between having bad sound and no sound at all. If a reviewer were scoring a game with no sound or music, then it would be fair to drop it from the score. However, if the game had horrid sound effects and music, then it would have to be considered in the review, even if it "wasn't the point of the game."

T Review

"You are probably right, but if we look upon this as an "interactive show/story/whatever" then this amount of gameplay is all right, (even visual novels have some gameplay in them sometimes...) while if we expect an RPG, then it's waaay not enough."
That would be permissible if this were a complete visual novel. However, however little, there *is* a significant amount of gameplay and because it is there, it should be considered in part of the review process. Gameplay could be dropped completely if the game had absolutely no gameplay like a true visual novel/interactive show. But there IS gameplay, and therefore it can't be ignored in a review.

In fact, if this were nothing but an interactive show, then I would replace gameplay with another aspect: interface. When I play a visual novel, I expect a smooth interface with features like ability to skip text/scenes, ability to adjust text speed, ability to save at any time, etc.

T Review

"Now gameplay is an issue, that is true, and I do ponder a lot upon genre. You have a point in saying that I should have took that into consideration in the final score, nd I thought a lot about it, but you see, I beleive this game got enough bad reviews because it's not really an RPG. There is a limit for punishment suffered because of a misplaced label. I think this is fair, but it's a debatable point and I understand if some people disagree. "

Your only justification for rating the gameplay so high is because everyone else rated it low. That doesn't constitute a "fair and just" review.

T Review

How can you claim that this review is "objective and 'just'" when you completely glossed over every single negative aspect of the game?

"So what is supposed to keep the player there for the first few hours? That would be the atmosphere. "
No amount of atmosphere, no amount of polish, no amount of shiny paint on the surface will change the underlying work underneath. You're claiming that although it's boring, slow-placed, lacking in gameplay, and has a large amount of dialogue (all your words), that the "atmosphere" makes it a great and enjoyable game?

Furthermore, your "GPR" tangent is completely irrelevant and inane bullshit that distracts from the main point of the gameplay segment. Claiming that it's not an "RPG" doesn't mean that it automatically gets a perfect score because its gameplay is lacking. What you're describing isn't even a revolutionary new genre, it's a visual novel. Visual novel is another category of game entirely, one you can actually choose on this site as a genre. However, the creator explicitly chose to register Quintessence as an RPG, not a Visual Novel. The creator himself has acknowledged that the game is meant to be an RPG.

Lastly, your recommended vs not recommended section is hideously biased and pretentious.
You're claiming that the only people who don't like the game are people who:
-Hate dialog
-Only care about action and gameplay
-Are hardcore RPG players
-Want choices

How incredibly pretentious. Oh, right, "those people" only care about action and gameplay, they can't understand what a fantastic work of art this is because they can't look past the glaring design flaws... Don't listen to them, they don't care about story.

This is sickening. Did you really write this solely as revenge for my review? And you're calling me emotionally-charged? Grow up.

T Review

@LEX: I won't deny that my review was a little emotionally charged, but don't you dare claim that my review is invalid because of that. Don't condescend me. You can't handwave my points because I "got so emotional" and because you are someone who has "already established themselfs as just and competent critic."

Dhux's Scar

I'm going to give this a try!

Vacant Sky Vol. 1: Contention

episode 2 is out now? nice

Hi everyone

I'm toria, I found this site through a complicated maze of TVTropes links and I've been away from the RPG Maker scene since 2003 came out. I'm 25 and I like movies, cats, photography, and anime.

So that this doesn't devolve into nothing but an exchange of hellos, I've got a question: What RM game that you've played has the best story? I'm really looking for a great RM RPG to jump into to see what's up.

Thanx!!
