I am now the proud owner of some 20 year old hunk of junk!

This calls for some victory music!:

So... any other retrofags in the house, or is it just me? I mean, given how many people love RM2K & 2K3, I imagine somebody here has a thing for old games and hardware.
I have more interest in playing older games than I do for newer games.

I have *looks up at display case* Sega Master System, Original Gameboy, Gameboy Advance SP, NDS, NES, SNES, Virtual Boy, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Ps1, Ps2, Ps3, Xbox 360, and E.T. the video game(but unfortunately no Atari to enjoy the masterpiece). I don't have many old games except for about 45 nes games and about 15 snes. Got tons of PS1-3 games tho.

I have a friend who also collects and he's big into Saturn right now. I'm not sure of the number but I think he's got dozens of games.

Oh, and I don't exactly care for that term; retrofag. But I'm not gonna overreact to it.
But this is the Internet! You're supposed to overreact to everything!
"Fag" is a funny word when stuck at the end of something. It usually amounts to little more than "you like things I don't and don't like things that I do", in the same way that "aspie" really only means "you know things about something I don't care about". Its hard for me to really get up in arms about words that mean so little (or anything said by strangers on the internet).

I can't really deny that the label applies to me in a sense, though. Older games are mostly what I've been playing lately, except for maybe the new arcade ports from CAVE and the like. I mainly like their challenge and the way they're paced: No (extensive) tutorials, things typically aren't repeated too many times, and sprite animation generally has fewer frames, which tends to make moves quicker and feel more responsive.

A Virtual Boy, though? Really? Does it give you headaches, nausea, and the temporary inability to see the color red as every claims?

You're magical to me.

I contend that the Wario game for the Virtual Boy was excellent, even if most of the other games for it weren't. And while it took some time getting used to, I never had anything other than a mild headache from it, and that was only if I ignored the "take breaks after x amount of time" thing that you were supposed to do.

The 524 is for 524 Stone Crabs

I almost read this as "Sega Satan."

Good for you, though. The fact that there are so few stable Saturn emulators, plus the desire for me to play Saturn Bomberman, makes me want to get one myself.
I guess you could sign me up for the "Retro-fag" club, but more out of convenience than anything else. If I had the kind of moneyz to buy a current generation console (or even a past generation console xP) I would... But in the mean time I'm perfectly happy playing second-hand, 10+ year old games in the middle of 2014. Oh, yeeeah! 8D

I got a Gameboy Advance a few years ago, but I've pretty much played all the good games already, so I'm looking into other old consoles. The Sega Saturn was (is?) among them, but besides the Panzer Dragoon series I don't think there are many games on it that I could enjoy, or that I could get a copy easily. Instead I've been thinking of getting a Dreamcast (surprisingly, they're about the same prize), if not only for games like Skies of Arcadia and Shenmue, two titles I hear a lot about.

That Saga Saturn video is awesome, btw. xD
Yeah, this is THE greatest generation to be a miser. The main reason I don't by a lot of modern retail games is exactly because "I could pay $60 for one game I might enjoy, or I could get anywhere between 3 or 9 games I'll probably like for that price!". Between cheap used games and download markets like XBLA, PSN and Virtual Console putting out the classics and other good, cheap games, I've probably tripled the number of games I own in the past couple years. Though, in a lot of cases its just more games that I didn't know existed at the time or were before my time. Einhander was about $60 used for me, but I still think its a fantastic game, even today.

Good luck with the Dreamcast, though. Those systems are kinda fragile -- I know mine gives me some crap now and then, but so does my Gamecube and PS2 Slim (the Fat one's just fine). Oh well, I really only need the GC for Gameboy Player, which thankfully only needs to spin the disc to boot it.

And yes, Segata Sanshiro is probably the greatest advertising ploy ever.

Saturn Bomberman

I'll admit, I haven't played any Bomberman games other than that crappy "Hero" one on the N64. Apparently the Saturn one had 10 player local multiplayer, so I guess that's the draw of it? For those rare individuals with a multi-tap and 10 friends who want to play Bomberman, and 10 controllers?

They're really affordable right now. The one I got was just $60, though from what I hear, the prices of the games has been increasing lately. It might be now of never!

Also, RacketBoy is a pretty good site to visit for info on this kind of stuff.
Virtual Boy has a worse rap than marijuana does. When used properly, it's rad.

Mario Tennis is fun for a while, good use of the 3d effect. But it gets boring after a while.

Red Alarm is awesome, it's like a wireframe Starfox game.

Boxing is good.

I only have those 3 games but want to get more, including Wario.
