I'm even more of a space-case than normal right now.

I woke up two hours early yesterday, and one hour early today, and couldn't get back to sleep. I think I have a permanent deer-in-headlights look on me right now XD

That's what happened to me, actually. I have a test today, and I woke up about two hours before I was supposed to. Anxiety? Probably.

This may sound odd, but drink some milk and eat a banana before you sleep. They help you get to sleep faster.

EDIT: As long as you don't confuse bagels with glasses, you should be fine.

Wait, bananas help you sleep? I've never heard that before...

It's crazy how noticeable the difference between 5 hours and 7 hours of sleep is!
Sometimes I wake up at 4 or 5 AM and just can't get back to sleep, so I work on stuff, but then I'm tired all day at job ;-_-

I knew that about milk, but not bananas. Maybe I'll give that a try!

Yeah, tell me about it. Yesterday I was brain-dead, today I'm more dazed.
Some hot chocolate and a good book works wonders for me. =)

The potassium in bananas is a natural relaxant. It's not necessarily for sleep exclusively, but it really, really helps.

I did not know that! I often use some kind of relaxing tea.

I recently learned that if you're trying to fall asleep and you don't after 20 mins you probably aren't going to anytime soon so its best to get up and do something to help shut down your mind. Looking at any sort of digital screen or any type of exercise will wake you up though, its best to read a book.

There's a joke about eating Liberty to calm down in here somewhere.

... But I'm a bit too riled up to think of one. I need to relax somehow. Anyone have any ideas?
chase 2 children under the age of 5 around until the wee hours of the evening. every night. forever.

that helps.

It's (usually) not getting to sleep in the first place that I have a problem with. It's waking up in the middle of the night and/or early morning and not being able to get back to sleep.
Oh, well, then take heart. Because the idea of 7 or 8 hours of continuous sleep in a night is a recent human societal thing. Because research (and history) indicates that it is more natural to have 2 sleep cycles of about 3 to 4 hours each, broken up in the middle for about 30mins - 1.5hrs.

basically, waking up in the middle of the night is normal.

So don't fret, just roll with it, and relax.

(in fact, that middle of the night wake up used to be primetime for sexy-times)
Waking up in the middle of the night is key. I can attest to the fact that while working in Alberta and getting up at like 4 AM every day, I didn't feel rested unless I woke up and rolled around once or twice during the night.

I wasn't aware that bananas helped you sleep. I knew they prevented muscle cramping, which is why I eat a fuckload of bananas, so I guess that explains how I always sleep so well too.

The best thing you can do for continued health is learn to listen to your body. Sleep when you are tired, eat when you are hungry, having a sudden craving for something that doesn't go away over a couple of hours, eat/drink it. Feeling twitchy, do something physical (yes that includes sex in all it's myriad forms), can't stop looking out the window when you should be concentrating, go for a walk, you're probably vitamin D deficient.

Learn to listen, you'll be happier, and healthier.

I am sleepy all time, overweight, crave sweets constantly, have a restless leg, and lack enough sunlight to get sufficient D

YAAAAY!

Though, on topic (sorta), I woke up at, like, 2 this morning, stayed up for maybe ten minutes before nodding off, then woke up again for real at 6-ish. I definitely had two separate dreams, but, I can only recall bits of the second one.
