I think I've determined that my ideal development time on any one project is roughly 1 year.

I can keep up great enthusiasm for a single project for a year. After that, it tends to require increased amounts of effort to develop at a constant speed. So I may end up trying for projects in the future that will hopefully take a year or less of development time XD

Sir Redd of Novus: He who made Prayer of the Faithless that one time, and that was pretty dang rad! :D

Sounds good. It'll keep fans waiting less, too!

Haha, exactly! It'll mean shorter games, but I don' think that's such a bad thing, if I make the most of the game time ^_^

I think that's a good schedule, and it's really good that you've found a comfort zone :)

Long games are super super hard to maintain motivation on - doubly so if you can only work on 'em part-time. And, if you're like me, you get antsy when you go too long without releasing something XD

Yeah, totally! I need to see that I'm making good, visible progress XD

Speaking of games, how's the Boss Game coming along?

Honestly, it's been slow the last couple of weeks. I prepped & went to ColossalCon, and when I got back I had a 70-hour workweek, so my last couple weeks have been shot. But! I got all of my character art and most of it is in, now. I have a few little tweaks I wanna make but then I think I'll have something for people to playtest :)

By the way, do you think it makes sense to make the playtest gameplay-focused? I still don't have most of the writing done and I'd rather have nothing in there than placeholder story.

I'd personally like a little taste of the writing, but if you don't have it yet, I won't hold it against you at all XD A gameplay-centric demo is fine, I think.

Haha, I figured :D Honestly, I just don't want to rush the writing and leave a bad first impression, especially for you and others who would definitely be interested in the story.

That makes sense. Honestly, I'm just looking forward to play any of the game :D

Ah, thanks, Unity :D Gah, now I'm nervous. I gotta make it good!
On average I take about 2.5-3 years to finish a big project, then my motivation will start to wane. >< I really need to work faster.

That's still pretty awesome! You have better motivation than me XD
I've got a lot of mental stamina, that's why. ^^
Any game made wholeheartedly (or at least "most-heartedly") by the dev will always be a great game. I doubt that the amount of time spent making it will matter.

I wish I had the same amount of 'mental stamina' as you guys though. I lose my drive around about a month after I start (in average)..
