For example:

NPC: "Talking to everyone can be helpful. You could learn something, get items, or the person could say something funny.

...

Okay, that last part was a lie."

You ought to see Prayer of the Faithless' 2009 iteration when it was still called Soul Sunder. ESPECIALLY if you want to feel better about your past projects.

That might be a funny event, where people anonymously submit their old crappy unpublished games and others play them for an hour and rate them XD

That sounds like a scary, cringe-worthy event and I absolutely want to be a part of it.
I know the feeling all to well! xD I replayed an old game of mine, thinking about uploading a video of it. I decided to not do so, since the game featured some (maybe?) offensive jokes.

every single one of my games is cringe-worthy to me within a year of release, which is why i never play any of my games

The 524 is for 524 Stone Crabs

I know that feel.

... All too well.

I can't believe I made this.

I think the only thing I would have for an event like that is the original TsuK version of Legacy. All the other crap games were deleted, and summarily forgotten about (for the most part).
Man, if only we all kept our first games. First Game Playsies would be hilarious.

I have a few of them, though many got lost through CPU reboots, incompetence in transferring files between computers, or being so ashamed that I made something like it (read: I made some seriously offensive, shitty joke games in the past) that I deliberately removed their existence.

My flagship is literally built on the back of my first game lol
I mean, I still have one of my first. It's... pretty bad. XD

Actually, that would be great! I still have a small demo of the second game that I ever made in 2k3 that was done waaaaay back in 2003 and I’ve never released it anywhere because, well…it was never completed. I lost most of the game, probably around 15 hours or so and a good chunk of it because our home desktop computer crapped out on January, 2004 (yeah, I still remember the date) because my little brother was fiddling around with something and caused the whole system to crash, and at the time I was still in highschool and had no job yet and CD’s were pretty expensive to buy at the time so I lost everything. I did manage to save the first chapter of the game at some point on a CD, which is around 2 to 3 hours long, and have kept it all these years and have played it once in a while whenever I feel the need to go back to it. I’ve also been considering redoing that particular game at some point whenever I get the chance to go polish it up, but that's a story for another time.

But, yeah, those first few games that you make are usually pretty f**king bad, lol. Mine had less than stellar dialogue and punctuation skills, poor mapping standards and tons and tons of badly overused clichés, bugs and mismatching graphics. If I had to praise at least one thing about it, though, is that I appreciate the large amount of scope that I was originally going for, as there are dungeons within dungeons and a pretty large amount of collectables and some mini-games that were scattered around that were pretty neat. Hell, despite the demo only being around 2 to 3 hours long, there are 6 whole dungeons in there, not to mention some hidden caves along the way, so I appreciate a little what I was trying to do, but I think I could have benefited more with some more experience under my belt and with some more proper planning techniques. But, hey, everyone's gotta start somewhere, right?

Funny you should mention this, because I was thinking about releasing the very first game I made in RPG Maker 2003, it's awful and short, but it still has a custom pokemon-ish system to catch, use & level up some of the monster you battle.
I'd also have to translate it to English, not much to translate, but I'm still considering if it's worth it.

I have kept all the projects I ever started, all 38(!) of them and their starting dates!

I've only deleted the very first game, but that was a one screen game where I learned how to use RPG Maker 2000 (man, when I learned what switches did!). Though I immediately regreted deleting it since I had made some really cool custom battle animations...

The only issue with such an event for me is that I'd ALWAYS have to translate the cringeworthy game into English...:P

I've kept almost all of my old games, too, except for the first one, which was a highly unfinished RPG Maker 95 game. ^_^ I think it ended up not getting transferred once when I got a new computer ^^;;

That pokemon-ish game sounds like fun! :D

Atleast you didn't release your first games...
My very first game got corrupted from a hasty USB transfer. It kind of sucked, since I had almost finished the damn thing (it was a pretty big traditional JRPG).

Haha, okay, I'll take your word for it! Still, sounds like a neat idea.

I shared them with some friends... who were able to give me a huge list of flaws with the games XDXD

I still have every single one of my old abandoned projects, just in case I want to recycle an animation or event etc. from them at some point. There's 13 of them, if I count correctly. Most of them just consist of a few maps with some half-finished mechanics or a short intro, and a good amount of them is in German.
With the exception of a few of them, there is a good reason I cancelled them and never made them public. There are some things the world neither needs nor deserves.

(Although I briefly considered finishing one of them for that Revive the Dead event a while ago. We should have another one of those at some point.)
