You should definitely do something about the border around the characters 'face'. Looks interesting otherwise.

Gradients ruin the atmosphere.

Next time there will not be gradients cause i working on totally 8bit game - shooter based on dragon quest style graphics. In this project i have used a chipset from Akropolis. This chipset is created by DE.
