Jack is a violent gorefest platformer made with Sphere.

The game takes place in hell, with the player controlling Jack, the grim reaper. Jack, who epitomizes the sin of wrath, is currently pissed off with Vince (the sin of greed) and pretty much just wants to royally kick his ass.

Fight through the scenic locals of hell as Jack leaves tones blood and guts in his wake with the game's unique gore system. 12 stages spread over 6 levels, two boss fights, as well as unlockable bonus games and game modes are available to the player.

Controls (default):

Left/Right: Move left/right
Up: Jump
Ctrl: Attack
Alt: Use wrath attack
ESC: Pause/Go to Menu

Game Basics:
The basic gameplay centers around using your normal attack (ctrl) to kill enemies. Timing of your attacks is key: when an enemy is hit, they will be knocked back, allowing you hit them again when they come in the second time and allowing you to avoid damage. However, when multiple enemies are approaching, it may be a good idea to retreat a bit or use a wrath attack.

A wrath attack (alt) is Jack's special move. When his wrath meter (the green bar in the hud) is high enough, he can use a wrath attack, which will pretty much kill anything in front of him to the edge of the screen. Killing enemies, or being hit by them increases your wrath, allowing you to preform a wrath attack. Each time you kill an enemy with a wrath attack, your score increases. The more enemies killed in a single attack, the more the score increases. A high or low score at the end of the game will unlock a different bonus game and finishing the game in different modes will unlock more modes.

*** Troubleshooting ***

If you are experiencing problems with the game, you can try to change some of the configurations by running config.exe. The two main ways of fixing problems is to change the video driver (or some of its settings, eg: disable fullscreen, etc.) or change the audio driver used.

One of the most addictive games I've played in a long time. Great job.
This looks excellent, friend.
This game is officially part of RMN SNEWS #6's Play Something! installment. Theme: Platformers. Congrats! (More people play this now!)
So I downloaded this game today - its very well done.

The style, graphics, sound effects and atmosphere are all great, and while the music is a little bland, it suits the game. Controls are simple and responsive, which is good because the enemy AI is better than your typical platformer. Clawed enemies will hunt you down and attack you, jumping or lying in wait above and below you. I died many times. The level design is also solid.

Now for a few gripes: there isn't much variety in the gameplay. It's basically jump, slash, jump, slash slash with the occasional ultra-blast. I'm on stage 5 (world 3-1) and have only encountered 3 types of enemies, two of which behave identically. Some powerups or treasure or the like would have done wonders to encourage exploration in this game, and perhaps made it more engaging overall.

Despite that, I felt compelled to continue to play the game.
Oh yeah, there was plenty of gore, with enemy heads and blood flying all over the place. Very nice touch.
Game is freezing here... at random moments. :(
Well it seems I need to comment here as I thought a review would be accepted. It appears it was denied because I have "no integrity" when this game has been made using intellectual property to a certain web-comic. Go freedom of speech!

Either way, I already emailed the owner of the comic and he's been informed about the game; if this IS the owner than great... if not, then I hope you have permission to making the game using his character(s).

I am NOT giving the link because "I can't be advertising the REAL link or even HOW to find it..." so you kids have to look on your own.

EDIT: Also, the game's not too bad but it's very sluggish in certain areas and tends to slow down some.
Believe me, he's well aware of it. The game was first posted on his site back in 2006, and I talked to him about it during production.

Same problem here. I wanted to start the game but all I got was a black screen and when I tried to do something it gave no response so I had to close it again. Might be a little bit late but it would be great if someone could help c:

This is usually a problem with the graphical, or audio settings that the engine is using. Running config.exe and changing the video driver and/or changing the audio driver used will often fix this if the freezing black screen issue persists. From what I've gathered, changing the audio driver to winmm in these cases is the usual fix.
