Love Has Eight Legs is done!..!! Well, mostly. There are some little optional features I'm considering and maybe some more funny little quotes to add, but everything necessary and core is complete. The two adjectives I keep hearing from playtesters are "hard" and "addicting", which is 100% on the mark, so I'm all smiles in that department.

Release Info! I plan on releasing it for free on the Apple Store for iPhones with iOS 4.0+. I'll release it as soon as possible, but that is dependent on a few factors, relating to monetizing - *chokes on bile* - the game.

See, I finally picked up an iPhone and made this game just to see if I could. Can I code, art and design a game from scratch for a mobile device? I've made games by myself before, but it had been a while and I wanted to renew that feeling of actually finishing a project. In that regard, the game is a personal success - I made the game and finished it, and there's nothing keeping it from the App Store.

Still, I did put two months' time and I do want to make money off games I make in the future, so I'm exploring my options:
  • Mobile sponsorship: From what I can tell, this means I put a splash screen & possibly other links to a game portal (think ArmorGames) and they release it under their company's name on the App Store. This would probably take place through FGL.com. I'm considering this and it would be the most likely way to make money. I have no moral reservations to ads/sponsorships, but I'm not willing to put up with bullshit like tricking the player into clicking an ad. If the ad will hurt the gameplay, it's not going to happen.
  • Stupid "donation" DLC: Apple prevents me from asking for donations through an app - because they'll lose their royalty - but there's nothing to keep me from adding goofy DLC that provides a small or goofy benefit to the player, as a voluntary donation if people like the game. This would likely make me negligible profit, but it would be funny and hey, it can't hurt. There's proof out there that people will blow money on silly stuff if they like the game and want to support the creator, so why not?

All and all Love Has Eight Legs is a success whether it makes money or not, because the game is fun and people are enjoying it, which is good enough for me :D

I'll update the web version when I can; mouse gameplay is never going to be as strong as phone gameplay, but it's still pretty fun. I'll keep you all updated!
