YEAH! Your Everyday Average Game!

Your Everyday Average game, "YEA" for short, is both tutorial and parody of both tutorials and generetic RPGs. A short, funny game, and about half an hour tutorial.

I realize that the intention was partly to make a genuine tutorial, but I will view this game under the lense of parody. Since, really, RPG Maker games have a rather intuitive default interface and keyset. I can't say anything about controller functions in that regard, though.

In whatever case, you have these repeated again and again shortly after another, which already put a smile on my face. Pictures included! Like the tutorials we know. Repeating stuff we heard the last sentence.

Pictures - making things more complicated!

You are "guided" by three narrators. One, as seen above, stating mere tutorial lines. She explains what is going and why neutrally.
Then we've got a postive-active narrator explaining most of the lore- and clichérelated reality of "your everyday average game". Such as heroes never knowing a thing about the legend that has been passed down for ages and other tropes.
And lastly we've got Rave, an annoyed and aggressive narrator. Don't worry, you can piss her off on numberous occasions!

Another mystery solved

It follows the line of any generetic storyline, but while the happenings are very linear, the way it is narrated is not. You have numerous possible interactions with your two active narrators - starting by simply naming your character!
It has the "Stanley Parable"-charme right there. You are told to do something .. it's your choice to actually follow it. You are rewarded for trying out all these bad ideas you can get from your narrators.

Sure, there are nowhere near as many comments as in "Stanley Parable", but this game plays with how you play a game and with the clichés that are usually in it. Ever willingly attempted to die in a tutorial fight? Or spent multiple nights in the inn for no reason? I did!

Precise and to the point

The gameplay is more fun than you'd imagine, even if there are limited interactions.
You do have the standard tutorial narration inbetween, though. Which is even longer than your standard and might bore or even annoy some. I found it amusing in its own right, but you can easily skip it and get to the better parts.

It sadly gets slower towards the end, as encounter rates are rather high. You can flee very easily, though, and I would advise to do so. It obviously isn't a very hard game to beat.
Both graphics and music are .. most generetic RTP. The mapping is quite fine, although there aren't too many. You've got one town, a small world map, and a ruin-dungeon.

This game is a very funny parody for all those who can ignore or appreciate a dose overly boring tutorial lines. It has a great interactive way of playing out and makes you play with the game rather than in it!
It's just a shame that there wasn't as much dialogue towards the end, but otherwise a great ride. (I might have missed things as I didn't check any and everything anymore, though!)

The real question is: Does playing this game make you suck less!?
It makes those poor tutorial helper go scream "SUCK LESS", does that count?
You will be prepared to face the ridiculous RPG logic and standard system, though!
Wow~! Thanks for such an amazing, detailed, and complete review!

It can be hard at times to get feedback, so we appreciate reviews of any type. We are especially grateful to receive a full review, and we can't be the only developer who feels this way.

So, thanks again, for being a reviewer. We're glad we could entertain you and hope we can continue doing so!
My, what kind words! Thank you, I'm very glad it's appreciated.
Also a big thanks for bringing the dose of humour I miss so often ;) I'm definitely looking forward to future games.
