I knew a Mary once.

Dark Mirror is a game for the Halloween contest and it resolves around the tale of "Bloody Mary."

Story
The game's strongest aspect is the writing. It introduces the setup with bloody Mary and then stalls for a bit while you have to retrieve a torch and you know something bad is coming. The pay off for the build up is pretty good. I don't want to say much about the ending, you should see it for yourself but you'll feel cheated and then if you're like me, love it!

Graphics
I think it's all RTP, mapping is ok, the maps are functional but suffer from odd placement and while I'm usually the first to consider maps cluttered some of the maps were too empty - the living room was the biggest offender. I'm also not a fan of the lighting script, the game for me was too dark to see properly, thankfully the torch did help a bit.

Gameplay
The game tells you early on that "From here on, what happens is up to you." I found that to be untrue. At no point did I ever feel I had any choice in how the story unfolded. The gameplay was linear and quite bland, the high light for me was finding somewhere to hide and then the black screen and ominous sound effects. That was the most suspenseful and scary moment the game achieved and it was good.

Et cetera
The gameplay and graphics in this game are subpar but redeemed by the writing and dialogue. The game is pretty short so it's worth a look if you have some spare time.

Here's my play through if you're interested.

Thank you so much for the review of my game! I really liked what you had to say about it and it all made perfect sense. I do apologize for not adding in as many scares and choices as I wanted :( But overall I really liked your review! :D
