If you're like me, sometimes you just want to fight demanding RPG battles while simultaneously reading a young adult novel. However - if you're still like me - you only have two hands, and in that situation, I might recommend you play Teenage Costume Squad.

Teenage Costume Squad is a goofy RPG that takes itself just the right amount of seriously. The story is simple: you're a group of teenage friends looking for Hallowe'en costumes who wind up in an alternate dimension, and the only way to escape is to Fite A Guy. Later on, there's some weirdness with sheep and demons and power struggles, but really, you're there to fite a guy and watch your party members bicker and flirt.

The bickering and flirting is mushy and sappy and honestly really enjoyable. Teenage Costume Squad's flippant nature makes the high-school characters more realistic; they don't care about saving the world as much as they care about making fun of each other and who's going to start smooching. I found myself rooting for people - poor Kranz - and caring about my party way more than I'd like to admit, to the point of finishing extra dungeons just to hear more of their conversations. The game's nonsensical helper fairies and fourth-wall-breaks add to the comical side and gives your party more excuses to gossip.

I AGREE~

Most of the game is spent fighting, and the fights are intense, complex and generally enjoyable. Battles start simple and teach basic strategy - hit weaknesses, don't waste your AP - but slowly demand more perfect execution. By the end I found myself laying out complex strategies for each character, determined by equipping the right abilities and equipment so that they would always be useful. At times I felt overwhelmed with options, but thankfully a perfect layout isn't necessary to win. The battles themselves test your tactical mettle, and I found the bosses very satisfying. There were a few more of the easier fights than I would've liked, but this was a minor annoyance.

The high school drama, the weird monsters, the deep battles and the overall ridiculousness of the game made it a fun play. It sticks around a touch too long, but is worth it for the high points: the bosses and the flirting. If you love hilarious sexual tension and fiting tricky monsters, give Teenage Costume Squad a go.

Aw thanks <3

I'll probably put up a blog post soon covering what I plan on touching up over the next week or so, and then in a few months once LouisCyphre and I finish our project that didn't make it for the contest (and then I cool down from that). One thing will be a few difficulty tweaks (mostly upping it in late-game dungeons like Vulcane Realm and Dragon's Feast), and also adding movement speed options to the System menu to help alleviate a bit of the "gam iz 2 long" reactions I've gotten. Although maybe that'll be cancelled out by the axed dungeons I want to put back in, who knows. At the very least, the final dungeon will be turned into a dungeon proper, and the Berserk bug will be fixed (and the duration shortened (and Poison/Burning will be fixed. They don't actually react to enemy resistances right now.................)).

BUT YEAH I'm very glad that you enjoyed it, and that you liked the characters. They were a lot of fun to write. =)

I really did :) I even moved Kranz up to the front of the party at one point so he could feel important.

If you're going back and looking at stuff: When I played, I went around the top and fought backwards through the four elemental sisters before I even found Czarina, which could muddle the story for some people if they didn't pick up on it. It might not be a big deal, though.

I'm incredibly impressed with how well it all turned out given your schedule; it must've been a hell of a jam. Grats :)
