Mystery meets psychodelic

"The Shoes on the Other Foot 2" is a short continuation to, you guessed it, "The Shoes on the Other Foot" which takes place afterwards.
Having played the first one myself, I definitely had to try the next entry. It gives you extra incentive and food for thought, but is definitely not needed to enjoy the game.
It is an odd duck of an game, and being an odd duck myself, I am a sucker for bizarre and strange things.

Now, for all whose native language is not English (like me), "the shoe is on the other foot" describes a reversed situation - suffering from the same things you did to someone else.
Better keep that in mind as a general theme of the game.

On to the actual game

The game is divided into three sections, during which you learn the happenings piece by piece in no chronological order. The fact that it's in single sections makes it a lot more comprehensive, as you get the gist rather quickly. It also makes guessing a lot more worthwhile.

You start in an airplane, why you sit there and where it leads to will follow.
During this you shift between sections featuring the main character or his cat, while you follow the plot.
And reversed are a lot of things, starting by the high/low status of owner and cat.

In comparison to the predecessor, The Shoes on the Other Foot 2 is less customized, but a lot more polished. The maps are well-made and fitting.

The gameplay still has a lot of variety, not in minigames, but in the course of events. But often times what you are doing ends up futile or seemingly pointless. Still, it's more fun than mindlessly running around. I admit that.

The soundtrack is pretty solid. It varies between beautifully unfitting and fitting. Ever blown something up while listening to Chinese restaurant music?
It achieves a certain disconnect to the events, which bizarre things benefit from.

What I would like to particularily mention, and thought to be well pulled-off, is that there is a certain level of normality in this game which mixes with the absurdity.
There are chains of reasonable events, some events are reasonable if not for some conditions (one being a cat), and some are just off.

It allows you to logically approach the story, but leaves at the same times many things you cannot explain. As such, it has much more subtle psychodelic parts, some of which you might not even notice at first glance.

And then it ends on an aprupt turn of events, on a "to be continued".
Technically, I should be annoyed. But I am not. In fact, I am very looking forward to playing the next part (should there be one). The plot is as intriguing as it is repelling.
15 minutes well spent.

I would encourage anyone who has a mild interest, or would like to have a change of pace, to give it a try. It has much to enjoy, but little time to waste.
