Name: Born Under the Rain

Developers: Indrah, LockeZ, and Housekeeping

This is certainly the most polished of the McBacon Jam entries and it's everything I've come to expect from a game by even one of these three.

Story: Apparently, a living mortal is stuck in the dead body of a Pharaoh and the Pharaoh's ghost isn't too happy about it. The ancient spirit, having long mastered the art of smack talk and having carefully cultivated a signature, the ancient Pharaoh is rather impatient to get you out of his body, and he doesn't even take advantage of the most obvious bit of inappropriate humor--never mind what even considering that says about me. Enter two humans. Don't worry, I also thought that one was a guy. They're after the same thing, so everybody teams up.

Gameplay: Interesting. It's a straight dungeon crawler using VX Ace's standard combat system, but trust LockeZ to come up with a neat spin. There is no attack option. All attack abilities are MP based skills, but not to worry; you replenish your HP and MP after each fight. There are few items to be found, but that's okay; in addition to replenishing health after each battle, there's a chest just before the boss that will replenish all of your supplies, which are quite a bit limited. I played this on easy level and to be honest, all of the creatures are easy except for the boss, who is quite hard. All in all though, well balanced and a fun system to play with. For those who play on easy, this will feel like button mashing, but on the harder levels, you really have to think out your combat strategies. Your first attack for each character is always just a straight attack, but virtually all other attacks cause status ailments that against a difficult foe can mean the difference between winning and losing. Encounters are touch, and are also few. No grinding to beat the tough boss in this one.

Graphics: Looks like standard RTP, but beautifully assembled. This is a very nicely arranged dungeon in the style of an Ancient Egyptian temple.

Conclusion: I have absolutely no complaints or issues with this game. It boasts solid writing, story-telling, humor, graphic design, and an interesting and well thought out combat system. This is absolutely worth a download and a playthrough, and the difficulty levels offers a modest degree of replayability.
