Dark Tales of the Desert

This was a very enjoyable game in a desert setting that is not usually found in horror stories.

*SPOILERS BELOW!*
Pros
Story: I really enjoyed the story for this game. Getting stuck in a strange town that slowly starts to unravel a dark secret makes for a good horror story and a good way to think outside the box.
Pacing: As everybody knows, pacing is an important factor in horror and this story had no issue with that.
Gameplay: Gameplay was excellent. The evasion mechanic was an excellent add-on and really helped out with enemy encounters. Puzzles were fairly simple and not too hard to figure out.
Music: The music did a very nice job setting the mood for each new environment I came across.

Cons
Atmosphere: I feel like the atmosphere was not one of the strong points of this game as I did not feel very "on edge" or threatened until towards the end of the game or whenever a monster appeared.
Translation: The majority of the translation was done extremely well. However, there was one minor part with a small error at the end of the game. Jake: "Don't act like tihs! You know you want it." There were also some dialogue that remained in German when I investigated the trash cans in front of the store, but since they hold no significance, it's something I can overlook.
Flow: There were times in the game where it was not clear on where I was supposed to go. As a result, I would end up walking around everywhere trying to figure out how to progress. At one point, I had to reload an old save and look up a walkthrough in order to find the antidote for the snake poison because it was not clear on where I could find it and how to get it.

Overall, I thought this was a very nice horror game. It does have a few minor issues to it, but it is still a game I would recommend playing.

My Rating:
3.5/5 Good
