And why have I returned on Black Friday? (Uhm...not really sure why I picked today to type this up, but...) So, yeah I haven't updated Tears of Samsara as I've been dealing with a mental illness during the time I've been away. I'm not all "that" sure what it is, since I don't have money for a hospital visit...but! Enough on that, since it's something I'd rather not go into much detail about.
Soma: You're just afraid of doctors, you pansy.
Me: What? No, I'm not!
Cecile: Hmph, are all commoners as shameful as him?
Soma: No, he's a special case. But, I can relate on wanting to do my assignments.
Me: I hate you both..
Anyway, so..enough with that! Just thought that I'd let everyone know I'm alright, though I won't be updating anytime soon, because..well, I'm just too burdened with my aforementioned condition to do so. I hope to see you all again when/if I ever get better! :(
So, as ya'll may or may not have noticed, I've changed the name of this project from Balance of Requiem to Tears of Samsara. Like I've done once (or twice?) already, I will be nearly completely reconstructing the game including the storyline, several of the characters, the overall world and many other things.
I've made many mistakes since I first came here close to two years ago, and have gradually progressed and came to understand more in order to bring my project closer to the best I possibly can make it. I don't have all that much worth presenting at this point since I began remaking BoR other than a few sprites and a map or two, but I'm slowly doing what I can to get this show back on the road! :D
For everyone still keeping an eye on this, I'd sincerely like to thank you all for being patient with me, and it pains me to say that I will no longer be working on Butterfly Chronicles: Palemoon. I tried doing too much at once, until I ended up attempting to work on 3-4 games at once and my mind nearly cracked...anyway, I'm back in developing, so do be sure to keep checking in every now and then~ :)
Soma: "Can't you ever just pick one thing and stick with it? You give up too easily..."
Whew, three months without updates! (It kills me that it's something bad, but..)
Balance of Requiem..honestly, it had a good run. I can't say that I'll flat out cancel it, as I need something to go back to, should my new project I just put up ends, or gets destroyed, so I'll simply leave BoR to rust away, and whip it out(lol..) should the moment come when I feel like continuing it again~
So, I was looking at my sprites today, then took a look at Mack's template, and thought how would my characters look like as taller versions of themselves? As this was also a chance to improve my spriting skills, I made a rendition of Sana as he would appear if I started using the larger, Mack style:
in comparison to:
So, which style seems better, RTP, or Mack? To be honest, I find that they both look good, but before making any others, I'd like to hear others opinions on this on whether to enlarge the rest of the cast, or keep them as they are. :D
In other news, I've started rebuilding the Ilia Subterrane completely, and the first floor is almost finished(just needs to be parallaxed.), and a battle arena called the "Pantheon" has replaced the Etherean Academy. Expect screenies for both of those later today. :)
Because of several issues that I've been having over the last couple of weeks, the promised demo has again been sadly delayed. I understand that I promised I would have it ready by the end of the year, though if I were to ship it out now, it'd be an incomplete mess of wasting everyone's time. I want everyone to enjoy what I've been creating these last few months, and not just to struggle through it.
So, despite my last blog post saying the first chapter was ready, I'm still going to be needing a bit more time.
Now, onto the changes I have in store for the new year. More than half of the main cast will be receiving major appearance changes, while others may just be getting a palette swap, or an rtp edit; this is mainly because I'd rather not rely solely on the Ace Generator to do my work for me..as most of us, have already seen all of that before. Here're the ones I've finished so far..hopefully the new looks will catch on. (From left to right: Vier, Zenna, Sana, Selis, Aira, Dorgen)
I've also completely scrapped the Etherean Academy, as I felt it deluded too much from the plotline; so I'll be keeping the arena, just taking the academy as a whole out.
If any of my testers felt if the battles were too difficult, I've slightly decreased the random enemy strength/increased actor abilities, so you won't need to waste too much time in any battle other than bosses. :) I've also increased the number of items/cash you'll find, since it felt like there was hardly any on hand even during my playthrough. :p
Well, that's about it I suppose..thanks for sticking with me all this time, and for putting with my laziness in not getting it done faster than I should have. Oh, and may everyone have a happy new year, hope to see you all in 2013! :D
Yes, that is right, I'm finally done working on the first chapter, however I now need testers, to help me pinpoint any bugs/technical issues, and other things to help improve it!
There are a few things I'm currently aware of, such as the shadows in certain areas that may appear too dark, and I will get to fixing those, but they're not too much of an issue.
Okay, first, and foremost, if you played my previous demo back when this was still using the VX engine, let me just say, that it will be completely different from that, with only a few similarities here, and there. This will likely not be "as" difficult as it was way back then, however if you try fighting a boss unprepared, they will NOT go easy on you! :D
So, I'll be uploading the demo shortly for anyone who wishes to become a tester, and I hope everyone enjoys playing through it~
(As I haven't had a chance to test it all the way through myself, sadly I can't say if there are any game breaking bugs or not, so if any are found, let me know and I'll strike them down. Also, because of some technical issues upon extraction, the lightning effects have been taken out. Despite that, there will be less lag without the lighting!)
Lol thought I'd be releasing the demo? Sadly, no it's not ready -yet-, but I am very close to finishing the first chapter finally. Only around 4-5 more maps left to parallax, so I can definitely say I'll be finished by sometime next month!
Also, I daresay that before I seemed to be spamming out blogs, so I'll be limiting myself to only one every two months..why, you may ask? Because I'd rather not flood rmn's blog space with just mine alone. :o
Once I complete this chapter, I'll immediately begin work on the other games that I've been neglecting..so that they'll receive some love~ ^o^
I've been gone for a little while now, and I've been slacking a bit in updates, and what not. Anyway I'm finally back now full time, so I'll be working my butt off to finish the first chapter already!
There's not a whole lot I can offer up at this point other than the few screenies I've posted in the forums, but I can guarantee that I'll have the demo ready for you guys by the end of this year..maybe a bit sooner, who knows~
Here's a little treat for you guys though, just to show that I'm still working:
Sadly my attention's been directed mostly towards the mmo's such as WoW, and Maple as of late, so all progress on BoR has been put to a halt..for now. It won't be going on hiatus since I'd rather not experience that dry spell of nothing going on again, so I'll just be leaving it as is.
I'll be coming back to this sooner or later, it'll just depend on whether or not I get bored massacring as an epic undead, or blood elf, or the other races of WoW..
Oh, and before I forget, which knowing myself I probably will, I've decided to add in an extra optional boss for the demo which I "really" need to get working on! (I won't say where exactly you'll find him, as it'll eat away at the fun of exploring if I do.)
Anyway, that's all for now~ :) (I know I said I'd be done by the end of the month..but oh well.) Expect to see some epic heads rolling..literally!
..Right. Lol, anyway, I'm pleased to announce that progress is still going well, and I've remade the Dream Abyss slightly, to make it a little more challenging to navigate through. (You'll all find out upon the time to enter there.)
Anywho, I "Should" be able to finish up the chapter 1 demo by the end of the month, so everyone who's been looking forward to it just look forward to playing this soon~ :D
Before getting everyone's hopes up, chapter 1 isn't exactly very long, well at least compared to what I expect the others to be, but at least it should be long enough to keep everyone entertained for awhile! :)
