Do myths still hold relevance during the darkest of days? Will nations be driven by technology, to their doom or their redemption?

You will come face to face with your own nightmares in the Scar....

The scar is a chasm that rips apart nations and oceans. Very few have seen whats on the other side. However, since its existence, armies have been deployed along its borders to keep the denizens in check.... As advances are made in weapons designs, the Scar continues to pile on layers of corpses and broken machines. The enemy always seems to be one step ahead of mankind...

Yes, this game is pretty aesthetically steampunk with a darker edge to it. Holds true to what actually happens during industrialization, what it means for people, for war, and for nations.

- Steampunk setting, with fantasy elements
- Unique world with a painful history
- Music and sound effects appropriate to their environment
- Weapons and magic appropriate to the setting
- Believable characters who all have their place in the world

You had my subscribe before I even read the profile. Looks great.

I have to ask, though, is this inspired in any way by a China Mieville book?
No, its just a coincidence, although that author sounds interesting. The idea for the scar comes from the Western Front of the First World War.

Hey man, gonna try this out!

My first criticism even before playing the game is the color of the text boxes and the facesets. Although I think you make the text boxes a darker color I could bare with the facesets.
It's just for a dark atmosphere, that bright blue box doesn't look good.
I'll tell you what I think about the game after I play!

EDIT:
Well, I got an error as soon as I left the boarding house it was about a map008.
Also there is a lot of little errors, such as small brown lines that are visible when the sprites are moving, some passibility errors and text errors.
Would you want some help with this? I can try cleaning up some of the things I mentioned, as well as getting you a dark/steampunky textbox set.
Hello, thanks for letting me know about map008, the
thing is there is no map008. I think what's causing that
is that Trademeet, the next map, is a parent map for
for maps that contain things which no longer exist.
Any help is extremely appreciated, I'm going to upload
something I think should work better.

Regarding other people's questions:

1. I'm an American
2. If the demo works like it does on my machine, it took
my friend about 2 hours to finish
3. I have no skills with graphics whatsoever. I downloaded GIMP 2
following a suggestion, but don't understand any the terms it uses.
I mostly cut and paste in paint until something works how I want
it to. The faded image quality luckily for me, fits in with the
color scheme(poorly) of the rest of the game IMO. There are no
original graphics in this game besides what I've mix and matched in
paint.
4. I put weird line breaks in the text boxes because the text
would always cut itself off when the lines were too big. I just
got tired of this, so I made the lines really short and made
multiple message boxes.
5. I've seen so many ellipses, appropriate or not, in JRPGs that
it felt natural to use them to represent a break in a conversation.

Now my question is, did anyone manage to get to the end of the demo?

You're welcome! I haven't gotten to the end, but I plan on playing more today, looks like you got a new download up? So I'll try that out. :)

Probably today, I'll send you a message when some of the sprite sheets and what not fixed up.
