LINK WANTS TO PLAY YOUR GAME FOR A LITTLE WHILE
Posts

Every once and while when I take a break from game making, I like to play RMN games and record something to add as media. Mostly for the MS but also for the dev to see someone playing their game.
I don't like RTP games, but for this purpose I will accept the request to play them. But not for very long, unless the game is actually awesome. I prefer games with custom graphics and a unique look to them. I'll play just about any type of game. If it's something I don't like, again I'll only play it for a short time. I'll play anything, I guess would be the main point of this paragraph.
(Except 100% text-based games. I don't consider them video games because there is no video - just text)
I will post the video on youtube and submit it as media on your game page. I don't talk in my videos, so don't expect the verbal feedback. I'll write a little bit, submit the video, and move onto the next one. If your game is still private but you want some early feedback, I can do that as well. I'll upload the vid as private and PM you the link, then delete the video after you watch it.
I do this stuff anyways, but I figure I'd open it up to people who aren't getting much feedback on their games or would like a video of someone playing it. Games that I probably pass on when I'm looking for something cool to play.
I suppose I should give a warning that I expect a lot from a game. I'm much less forgiving than other players. I will be totally honest and respectfully criticize your game. If you can't handle it or simply don't want to hear it, let me know in advance when you make a request. That way you can get a video, and a smile, and I'll shut the fuck up :)
There seems to be some confusion about what I will do afterwards. It will be rare that I actually complete any of these games and if I do it's another rare % that I will write a review. Perhaps because you see the picture of a game rating xD I'm just adding that to give an unofficial score. Writing reviews is too time consuming for me, sorry.
If you would like to request a review, Gourd_Clae has an app for that - http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/16415/
Kel is doing reviews, too - http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/16486/
RMN games I've played so far (not just requests)
Incarnation by Liberty
Video 1 - Intro and first town
Comments
Attempt 1 failed - Game loads an empty map.
Attempt 2 - Mapping is solid, a few minor passability errors and typos. Fun interactions in town, it was very lively. Battles do require thinking, but early on they are very tedious. I was told it was hard, but so far it's been easy because of the defend ability. I didn't get very far in 1.5 hours of play and that is a little too slow. If I get a save file that puts me deeper into the game I can really the see if the difficulty lives up the hype.
Play time - 1.5 hours

Deleted the video. There's a complete let's play on the game page anyways.

Interesting premise, but overall average execution. Even with rudimentary skill fusion, battles were uninteresting.
Play time - around 30 minutes.

Compared to the last version I played, this is pretty awesome. I have some gripes, but overall it's looking good.
I didn't know this was a wonderboy fan game until I got to the actual castle gates. Is it just the castle town that is the same as the actual game? I don't like when fangames reuse the old maps. One town would be fine but much more and I would be disappointed. I didn't play much beyond using the second character.
The opening is kinda wonky. I don't think you really need all those disclaimers as an opening. Maybe show it once when you start a new game, but not every time I load the program. It's annoying and I already know you stole your resource and that they belong to the person who created them. It takes waaaay too long to get to the title screen.
The opening story text was kind of long winded. Most of your text is long winded. It reminds me of FFxiv. The npc's go on and on when you talk to them and it's all fluff. They speak all these words and actually say very little. Remember old games, the npc's would get right to the point. Here you inserted comments like "I remember visiting that area when I was little" instead of just saying "go to this area". Comments like that might seem to give more emotional meaning to the text, but to me just come off as pointless fluff. When it's overdone. A few here and there are fine, but it just seemed like every text box was 3 boxes long and full of fluff. Like in FFxiv, I find myself mashing the button to get through the ordeal and just speedread to gleam the important info. Try and be more concise and limit the amount of flavor text your adding to the basics. (this is more just my opinion, others may want to see more of that stuff. so take this with a grain of salt. or a pound of it)
The movement of the character was ok. Some issues with jumping out of the water. It didn't seem to respond to me carefully jumping out of the water. I could only jump out of the water when I mashed the jump button.
The attack animation looks weird in how it does a full circle. The characters body doesn't seem to move much and the sword is all over the place. Not a big deal. It just didn't look like a natural sword swing movement. The hitbox is fine. I was able to land on top of an enemy and hit it with my sword. So from a gameplay point of view, it works well.
I don't like when something is forced on me. Like fullscreen. Most computers have different hardware and they can't always display the game the same way. So for my computer, it distorts all the graphics and causes some kind of strange lag to all the music/sound effects. And I can't take it out of full screen. OH GEEZ, I didn't see the instructions before. Looks like I can go to windowed mode. Unfortunately it doesn't solve the glitches. Sound is stuttering and the graphics are all deformed. Oh and every time the music starts over, the game freezes for a second.
The graphics aren't unplayable, just minor glitches. But they're everywhere. A lot of the trees have vertical lines next to them. The font has pixels out of place, forming sharp little corners on them. Things like the health bars, which should be perfect rectangles, have strange lines and angles in them.
This is windowed mode.
The characters eyes are closed far too often. It looks like you simulated blinking, but it's more like 50/50 between open and closed. And every time I swing my sword, he closes his eyes. Or her. I dunno.
Most everything else was pretty fun. Good use of animations and layers. Good level design. Some of the layers/animations seem a little fast. Like the ocean and the clouds. It's like there is a hurricane forming behind me.
It was annoying when I was the second playable character, though. The double jump/flying thing didn't always work. Sometimes I would press jump a second time and hold it, and she wouldn't fly. And too often I was blocked by huge invisible barriers. The way some platforms prevent you from jumping was weird. It appears that I should be able to jump, but I can't. And not being able to attack while jumping? Could you explain the logic behind that?
Oh, there was one thing that bothered be in the tutorial level. That part where you bounce up and backtrack. As you fall there is a ledge with some kind of item on it. I couldn't get it. The first time I fell, I didn't know it was there. So I went back around. I tried a few times but I wasn't able to land on that ledge. And it's such an annoying trek that I just gave up.
Play time - around 30 minutes

Attempt 1 failed, unable to launch game.
Attempt 2 - This really isn't my kind of game. Possibly in a different setting but I found myself bored pretty quickly. It's well put together, though.

Pretty hard but not overly so. I'm gonna play this some more. I prefer fun levels over difficult, so it's not my favorite. Not much else to say on it, just watch the vids.

I never played the original, but looking online it seems to be exactly the same. I had some issues with my joystick keypad. You'll see me die a bunch of times, then sit there for a few seconds while I ditch the gamepad and use the keyboard. I was going along fine until I couldn't finish a level. It said there was 1 chip but I couldn't find one. Please watch the video and see if I'm missing something.

Funny dialogue, fact paced story, fun battle system. I'm enjoying it so far and will keep coming back to this one. It's like the Austin Powers of RM games. I hate how when I learn a new skill it changes the order of my old skills. I don't like change.

Incarnation calls you. Be warned: items are necessary and battles are hard. Ready to get rocked!
...please?
Well, if you're willing to wait until October 14 2014, feel free to try out the full release of Seraphic Blue translation when that day comes :)
EDIT: And, um, yeah, this game is pretty tough. Game overs are not uncommon. Just a heads up.

I'm no RPG slouch. I'm up for a challenge, now and later on. I'll probably keep this open indefinitely because I'm always gonna want play games.
Ok, Link_2112, you're allowed to play my game for a little while. But just for a little while. And not till it exists...more.
In the mean time you can play any of the dozen or so games I've got lying around the site if you get bored or something.

I'd prefer a specific game request, and probably not a bunch from the same person all at once. Preferably one of your games that isn't as well known and documented as the big ones. Seems like all of your games have lots of reviews and downloads so you don't need my video as much as other people might. I'm not good at playing long complicated RPGs. I get bored easily and like to sample many things rather than focus on one for a long time. I'm like a reverse completionist, in that I can't remember the last time I actually completed a game(even a console game). Maybe FF9?
But, I am taking requests and I will take your request and play whatever you'd like. For a little while.
Oh and looking at your game list I realize there is one kind of game I will refuse to play. Text only games :P
If you're up for a difficult puzzle game, check out my game Bunraku! http://rpgmaker.net/games/6337/
I'd like a review for my terrible first game Plumber Man.
So far, all review attempts have failed. Its that hardcore.
ARE YOU A BAD ENOUGH DUDE TO SUCCEED WHERE ALL HAVE FAILED

SO there was something seriously wrong with my upload (why didn't anyone say anything?! o.O; ) but that is now fixed if you feel like giving Incarnation another shot? >.<;
Sorry about that. ;.;

Thank you Link_2112, my favorite thing is to watch others play my game. I'd love to watch a video of you playing Bunraku.
Mind if I ask you to play Lyra? Yes, I know that it's rtp and all but hey, it's my first finished game.
Thanks

Speaking of giving up...
Bunraku :/ won't install for me. It took forever to start up and when it was extracting, after about 3 files it froze and became 'not responding'. The task manager says it's Bunraku(32), as in 32bit windows perhaps? I have 64. Although I've installed other games the same before with no issue. Let me try again..
In the mean time, let me rant about installers. I fucking hate them. Give me zipped folders, people! Especially for RPGmaker games. I know you want to cater to the idiots who can't figure out the sorcery that is winzip, but I can and I'm getting to the point where I don't want to run them anymore. It's one potential virus threat after another. And you're shitting up my registry.
Oh, Bunraku was successful this time. Good thing, I was about to give up ;)
edit: annnnnd its broken. I get cannot find RGSS301.dll. Is this a common error? Is there something I can do to fix it, like copy in some files from another game. I own VXA, so it can't be a missing RTP issue. Is the graphics folder supposed to only contain a Pictures folder?
To all: I don't mind and I don't need a please. I will play anything!
But there seems to be some confusion about what I will do afterwards. It will be rare that I actually complete any of these games and if I do it's another rare % that I will write a review.
I'm doing this for the media. The video of me playing so you can see how someone handles your puzzles or battles. You might have a positive review and some great comments, but you don't get to see how someone navigated that puzzle or what strategy they used to beat that boss. I myself want to see that for my own games because you get the most important kind of feedback. You might notice that the player keeps getting hung up on a certain spot of a puzzle, so you to tweak that in the future or not use it. It's more useful than hearing that your puzzles were great or simply had some 'navigation issues'.
I'm not a big fan of writing reviews because I tend to have a lot of negative things to say about RM games(from my past experience) and I don't like being so negative all the time. I pretty much exclusively write reviews for games that blow my socks off. Or if the game is really short and a review would be a quick write up.
Something else came to mind. If you want to see how a person plays a certain part of your game you can send me a save file and I will record from there. Even if I played your game earlier and didn't like it. You can get a video of that one area being tested out. Let me be your temporary beta tester.
@link: the part of my post that wasn't jokesy refers to the games I haven't released yet and hence isn't currently actionable.
Regarding Bunraku's download, I've downloaded it on several different computers and so far and no other players on here have had the same problems you are having. Unfortunately I don't remember if there was anything else in the graphics folder and can't check due to my computer being busted, but when I get the chance I will give you a link of a zip of the game and hopefully that will solve that for you and others.
