The state of the game

I will begin by pointing out how epic this project has become. It is a very difficult task to make a good 5 hour game let alone a 50 hour one. Thus, a project i began in the fall of 1999 continues to this day, incomplete.

I have a year ahead of me and fully plan to do what i can to complete it. A lot of work has been done so far. I estimate a certain 6,000 hours or perhaps significantly more. I do estimate that only about 1,000 hours of work remain.

I split the game into 4 main categories. Story, Music, Graphics, and Gameplay.
Each is in their own state of completion.

The story has significant progress. After all, i began planning everything out 11 1/2 years ago. I simply need to complete it. I know the characters, and all there is about them. I know where they are, when and why. I have a time line etc. So this is well and good.

Music will also be fine. By a combination of OCRemix, Reason 4.0 and a package of free to use symphonic pieces, the game is free of MIDI and sounds excellent.

Graphics are well. They should be fine. I am not knowledgeable in the more complex coding available. So you can count out anything completely breathtaking. however, i have Bryce 6 for panoramas, and a general sense of what looks pretty. I am trying to make most maps a 15x20 frame. I think it's better to have the hero walk around the screen than to have the map scroll around the hero. This will not always be the case though. I'm not totally comfortable with the graphics, but i am certain they will not work to detract from the game. They will not make your eyes bleed and will show a level of competence well above many of the simplistic looking games out there. See my screen shots.

Gameplay will be great. no minigames as i do not know how to code them. But every dungeon will have something to do. Lots of little puzzles and such. Characters are customizable. This works to a level that will require a substantial post to explain. However, the battle system is what i am most confident in. I have played a number of games on this site, but most certainly most every jRPG on any console. My battle system is better than all of them. xD (EDIT January 20th: 'better than all of them' is a poor choice of words).

That's pretty big claim. Let's hope you can back it up.
Especially considering it's RM2k3 DBS.

People still haven't learned that saying "my game is the best game ever" isn't the best way to get positive attention.

my game is the best game ever by having the same things you played in the previous best game ever
I'm sorry, RedAkerston, but using the default rpg maker 2003 battle system doesn't make it a better system than others.
Heard he used a lot of buffs and debuffs
LoL.
I am making no 'best game ever' claims overall.
And it is not my intent to be black and white,
Especially as there are many fun jRPG battle systems about,

The battle system is at the very least complex. No, it's not custom,
but i've never played a DBS system that has been used ... FULLY.
of course i haven't played them all.
I'm really trying to show what it can do.

To Strangeluv (and anyone else),
Buffs and debuffs, from enemies and allies.
Damage and cures working at smaller values to add flow to the battle.
Fully using the A-E damage index for heroes and enemies.
And of course buffs and debuffs to arrange that.
Every spell and stat increase is used by the player to customize characters.
I realise this causes some problems, but i'm good with that.

Well, i promise i'll make a new page for the battle system and be as detailed as possible.
Hopefully in the next week.

Your saying that your default 2k3 DBS system will be better than console jRPG's? I think 11 years is a long time to be working on a game without figuring out how to do simple coding. There are tutorials for that stuff, even if you don't understand the material you can still reproduce it.

Your correct in saying your game will probably be better than the average RM game, but that's a pretty low bar to climb over.
*eats his words happily*
I'll be careful about the language for future posts regarding best ever comments..
My apologies. I am quite happy with my use of the DBS though. :)
Hopefully it will be enjoyed for what it DOES do.

In an ideal world, yes. In this funky RMN world carrying a 50 hour(seriously?) price tag, we'll see.

Y'know, I don't even mean to come off as a dick here(but it will) but damn, I seriously hope it never takes me 11 years to finish/work on anything.
I've seen a few projects recently boasting about how many years it has taken to work on/complete the game, and the game never looks that great imho.
it's always really badly done, or just plain weird. (sorry, but Final Tear 3)
like they spent all those years making a reaaaaally long sub-par game, without ever showing someone else to get their critique on the product.

I haven't played yours, so I don't mean to judge so harshly from appearances alone...but damn..
^^
That's just how it played out i guess.
Whatever happens, i'm using this as a kind of storyboard to eventually make a series of novels from my story.
I hope it can first be a quality game.
