About Megumi/Fujiko:

Hrm. I'm smelling a "main" story file that splinters into two separate story files!

About my confidence levels:

Well, there was certainly a good chuck of time when I wasn't feeling up to snuff with anything. Some of that is reflected in posts here, and other places (the best example that I can think of) as well. I dunno. It seems to come in phases, or something, since I'm okay-ish now? Though, I'd be damned if I didn't thank you for that vote of confidence. So, uh, thanks!

Emiko-sama! Uuuuuup date!

Just starting to playtest this now. On first playthrough, the game thought your "flowchart" was a story file :D . Should have some feedback for you later this week.

That's interesting to note. The flowchart being in the story directory never game me any problems!
Sooooo... Just letting everyone know that I would definitely playtest their characters if I thought my internet could handle the download. Which it might, but that's just that many more megabytes gone from it's monthly limit.

On an alternate, likely contradictory note, I've uploaded more tachie. With these seven, I'm apparently up to thirteen characters total, most of which are now largely outlined and ready to be written. Just need to stop being lazy/anxious about it. =.=;

Be warned; due to the fact that the hide tag for some reason doesn't hide thumbnails, once you open the hide tag this post will become huge.

HIDE TAG!

Starting with a couple of characters that I have reserved on the ID list:

Hanata Haruka

A very energetic, active, mischievous first year and member of the formerly closed newspaper club. Likes running around campus (often literally) taking compromising pictures of other students completely without their consent for her articles. Seems clever at times, but is ultimately not too bright.

Shiromiya Kagami

A very reliable third year from an all-girls school in the city. Hard to offend and friendly to everyone. Tends to joke around a lot when she's in a good enough mood. Is aware of and has generally accepted the fact that her heterochromia iridum (two different colored eyes) tends to make some people a little uncomfortable.

Now, new ones:

Torahashi Mio

Competitive but kind first year and member of the girl's judo club. Can be very blunt and straightforward and has significant difficulty reading the atmosphere. Easily entertained. Has on older brother in <player>'s class who is a member of the boy's judo club. Is friends with Haruka since middle school.

Hisatsuki Seiryu (name all sorts of subject to change)

A shy and reclusive second year. Hides behind her bangs in hopes to reduce her presence. Often mistaken for being depressed but such is not the case. Quite creative and smart, though a little lazy and lacking in confidence. Loves video games, particularly fighting games. Is currently in the planning phase of making a computer game.

Yurihara Sakura

Somewhat snarky, lazy and otherwise average second year. Has no particular interests so far. She is subject to being slightly more visually modified than she is now. Ultimately going to be an experimental character.

Suzuki Yomi

A slightly odd, nature loving second year who does everything at her own pace. Really likes both cute things and scary things. Also tends to bake tasty treats to share with people during lunch break. Is friends with Sakura since first year.

Tenshimi no Kokoro (name and description potentially subject to change)

NOT GOING TO BE WEARING THE SCHOOL UNIFORM. Will instead eventually be wearing a custom drawn kimono. A mischievous and potentially dangerous youkai who is at least a couple hundred years old. Has the ability to manipulate the subconscious mind to a degree. Has come to <player>'s town to investigate mysterious blue orbs. People normally can't see her, but if their mind and soul are strong enough...

The first two I've had kicking around for a while, but the other five I created in the span of the last three to four days. I once again mostly ignored everything else preceding this post if only because anything I may have said or asked or whatever has already been said or asked or whatever. ^.^;

-EDIT- I SWEAR I WILL RELEASE MOST, IF NOT ALL, OF MY CUSTOM PARTS FOR PUBLIC USE EVENTUALLY! I just need to get them all in proper working order i.e. make them pretty enough for public use. ^.^;

Ooooooho.o
Tiger teeth*~*

The anxiety we can handle easily. Something I just noticed recently this year, a way to counter anxiety over the quality, while keeping to it's uses.

Just don't give a shit 'till you upload it^^
Seriously. Just pop it out and post.

Over time, I realized that the quality itself has no effect on how harsh the reviews are. It's more of who posts it. So Marrend's will be cautious and based on some gut feelings as much as logic, while mine will be more thorough but harsh, and so on.
The reviews will find the errors no matter what~ and, it's easier to fix something with obvious problems, anyway:3 It's easier to push too, since we know your basic idea. 'long as the draft doesn't betray that, it's safer to post than prolong for later.

Also, calling dibs on a version of your kimono. Have been planning something alike to Kyouki scenes for a few.

I'm kinda laughing at this, since that's pretty much what I've been wanting people 'round here to do. There was this post I made whenever-it-was ago where I quote some statistics, and was like, "Come on, people. Let's get some more content available, even if it's unfinished!"

I'll definitely keep this in mind when I get to work on them. ^.^ All of that stuff.

I'm a little miffed that there's no comments on the presented characters themselves, but then again there's not much to go off of. ^.^;

I called dibs on your kimono design though. Paying attention to the part I know will be amazing. It's art, and it comes from you. You've proven you're good at it. People will focus on that.

As for the pictures, what would we say? They're pretty? All of your tachies are gorgeous. We already said that enough~
Thank you very much for all that. ^.^ But I was more wondering if the characters themselves, umm... sound interesting at all? I don't know, I'm just being unnecessarily anxious still. ^.^; It's ultimately kinda stupid on my part in my opinion, especially considering that I have confidence in all of my characters in my other works.

Oh well. I can muster a couple words.

Hanata Haruka: bit stereotypical, but the mix itself has enough originality.

Shiromiya Kagami: Someone Kyouki would get along with well. A realistic personality, too.

Torahashi Mio: Meh. The sports would need to be expanded upon, or has to have some other draw like Junko does. Hair is kinda creepy.

Hisatsuki Seiryu: Well... interesting character, but why would you date her? 'less she's a support character she'll need to change along with the player as they become friends to be attractive or capable in some way.

Yurihara Sakura: Like how she looks. Enhanced, but ordinary still. Could revolve around that, enhancing her ordinariness? Would fit with the snark nice an tight.

Suzuki Yomi: She's a mix of everyday traits that come across as special. Always liked the sort, and I'm not alone.

Tenshimi no Kokoro: "investigate mysterious blue orbs">3

Ya, I admittedly don't have a whole lot really thought out for her. ^.^; Just a basic feel for her personality that's not entirely outlined there.

Also, with the hair I had given it a more fitting color before, but thought "Oh great, I made another character with dark hair", so I made the pink version, asked a friend for their opinion and ended up going with that. I... kinda felt it wasn't right looking but was unnecessarily adamant about making a lighter haired character. Anywho, here's the darker haired version:

Tell me I'm not crazy and that this actually looks better. ^.^; I'll probably end up going with this version regardless.

See above note about not having them thoroughly thought out. ^.^; But! They are going to be a character that will become more interesting as the player gets to know them, of this I am certain. Some story stuff:

Most of her story involves the creation of her game and likely the breaking down of some of her self-enforced social barriers in the pursuit of that goal. She has a good reason to be generally anti-social, I assure you. There's not a whole substantial lot hidden in this hide tag. ^.^;

In regards to Sakura, Yomi and Kokoro; I'm actually planning on potentially releasing them as a pack if my experimental idea goes well. Though Kokoro may just end up being a separate character even if it goes well. It's still very "planning phase".

It does~ Thanks to the contrast, anyway. But it's possessed of the same issue. You should widen the divide between her hair and skin on the left side of her head - it looks like it cuts out of her skin rather than growing out of it.

That was certain. The issue is that it's not very... intriguing in any way to the Player. Let's list:

1. The player continually expresses his interest in the visually pleasing and feminine. Never has there been a route where he didn't use the word 'cute' or 'pretty' or 'girly' to describe the love interest. Let's not care how stereotypical that is, it's what he's interested in, hands down.
Seiryu is not conventionally attractive, so purely visual interest is out. This would be good in and of itself, as that's an exception in heartache we'd need, buuuuut

2. She's not very capable either. Even ignoring that it's a sensible way to judge a partner, we know The Player shows interest - or outright admires - the qualities of the girls. Tsubasa awes him with her mental prowess first, and that's why he chooses to pursue her. (Her figure is not immediately apparent.)
So Seiryu's creative, but too lazy to express it. Which game devs do you know who are like that? That's you guys, don't look further. And hands up, any of you impressed your dates with your creative qualities as a game dev?

>.>

<.<

Yeeeeeeeeppp. Saw it coming, that one.

No one is really impressed with 'gee, yeah, I'm working on this game, just doesn't have anything to show that you could really play.' You have to sit down, and finish that damn thing.

3. Last but not least, the Player likes mystery. Look how popular Riho and Akari are. He, and everyone else is drawn to girls who are antagonistic for no immediately apparent reason. 'This person hates me! Why?! I must know more!'
It just inevitably makes you think she's interested but hiding it(we're looking at you, Ms. I-Got-Another-Pillow, lady), since had she not paid any heed to you...

4. She would just ignore you. She has 'self-imposed social barriers'. She's not trying to date anyone herself. That makes for a one-sided effort. And the player himself isn't going to be interested when there's Tsubasa's or Masako's applied intellect to drool over.

Thus is the prediction: There will be a blatant excuse of a plot twist so they end up working together even though they don't share interests to begin with, and want nothing to do with each other.

You'll have to execute that swimmingly for this to work out. Otherwise, The Player and her both will need to change according to one another to fall for one another. (This is assuming she has an ending and not just an affair for the 'player' kinda Player.)

The way I'd pull this off is by building an interest in video games in the player first, and introduce Seiryu later. They'll bond over a hobby and you jump over the difficulty.

I was going to make a comment about playing Seiryu to see how she would compare to Shoko's route? Dozen seriously beat me to this punch.

Why not have the character be a venue to advertise whatever BDFalcon is making? Maybe it'll even be out by the time the character is done, if not afterwards (See: Emiko's route hawking up Okiku, Star Apprentice)?

Er, wait, was it BDFalcon? I'm pretty sure somebody on this thread mentioned working on a game, and not just Heartache custom content, but, I could be misremembering as to who it was that mentioned it.

-All of that useful constructive criticism-

Huh, I guess I wasn't really thinking from <player>'s perspective there. ^.^; The lazy and unmotivated's gonna go, it was kinda a last minute decision anyway. ^.^;

And with that I'm brought back to a great flaw I have in regards to writing custom content: I... only completed about 1.7 total built in routes (I've only completed Miki's route), and haven't taken adequate notes on <player>'s personality to actually properly write any characters. Of course, if I just completely re-write <player>'s personality it would work, but I kinda really don't want to do that. ^.^; Ultimately, I'm going to go on hiatus to actually thoroughly finish playing Heartache 101 before I continue even thinking of working on my characters.

I was thinking of maybe doing that with Seiryu, but I'm pretty sure that I won't. You are correct, I had mentioned that I was in the middle of making a fighting game a good while back. It's got it's character's and systems thought out but it's... sort of in a bit of a stand still. ^.^; like most of my everything. =.=;

With that, I hiatus. Largely to finish Heartache 101, but there are some other things to work on. I'll still likely check these forums for a little while, though.

*quirks eyebrow*

Gee, I didn't even complete one built-in route before I threw Masako-senpai into the mix. Even to this day, Tsubasa's route is still the only built-in route that I've seen to completion! So, either I'm insane (which might be true anyway), or I picked up on how <player> works in this game pretty quick?

Your iteration of him is a LITTLE different the player discussed here, but so is the rest of the game. There is 3 alternate versions of the player running around who are mostly the same people, save for disposition towards dates and morality, and each fit into a variety of date combinations, surfacing according to your current playstyle. These variations exist in the real game, too.. and your usual take on him varies too, the exact same way, like you've catched onto it by instinct.

You're really capable in some ways. Just not of the easy-to-notice sort.
Hello guys! Sorry for my delay in posts, but I'm afraid the pace in my work will be a bit slower since I have bought Vx Ace and I am now proceeding in making a horror/adventure-like game. I'm going to still make time for these characters and I'm aiming to complete them before completing the game. I should also note that I'm replacing Makoto Ohtaki with Akane Matsuhara. I'll post Akane's and Fujiko's neutral tachie in a bit. I'll make sure to edit this post or make a new one.

Opinions regarding BDFalcon's characters:

Hanata Haruka: Ah, another genki girl. This isn't bad, as usually genki girls scenes almost always are amusing/enthralling. I'm curious as to how the newspaper club story will play out.

Shiromiya Kagami: She seems like the average Joe you'd find on the street. Besides that, I also feel that she's also that stereotypical girl "You just can't hate!" (You know, the girls that they show in chick flicks? K, I'm done now.)

Torahashi Mio: I agree with Dozen on the hair. The bangs are creepy. Personally though, I don't think that her hair color is though. It's the way the hair color contrasts with the eye color. If you tone down the eye color the hair should look fine. I like her personality. However, this could just be my personal bias with "tough chick" characters.

Hisatsuki Seiryu: This character interests me the most. It's make you ask the questions... "Why does she hide behind her bangs?", "Why does she act so reclusive?", etc. I could see you easily building tension between her and player in her route.

Yurihara Sakura: Seems like the female version of the player, besides the snarky trait. I have no other comments besides that.

Suzuki Yomi: Reminds me of Ertad's Midori. I thought his/her character was also a nature loving person? But I could be wrong. I'm sure what else to say after that. Her appearance looks nice though.

Tenshimi no Kokoro: OMMMMMMMGGGG YOKAAAIS. *regains conciousness* I like her look. I like the fact that she's a yokai.
What kind of yokai is she? :3 (There's a chance that these questions may never end.)

And that's it! I hope you manage to finish these characters.

To Kevincalanor...

Half of the grammar is corrected! I'm going to also play test it to find any additional grammar and/or story errors.

To Marrend...

I felt like this needed to be in a hide-tag since it was off-topic. But, I played Uchioniko. The game. I have yet to finish it, but I really like the characters. Especially Mayu. She's probably my favorite Heartache 101 character. (See under first hide tag regarding my bias to athletic characters.) I'm going to try reviewing the game once I get a good idea how reviews are done 'round here, and once I finish the game.
