Simple but very entertaining

Iris Island is a crafting and adventuring game developed by LetsFilmSomething and takes place on the island of Iris. The beginning of the game shows the player arriving, by boat, into the docks. Immediately, you can tell that the developer has an eye for mapping, eventing, and writing just by completing the first quest that allows you to select your character's gender and name.

An enjoyable experience that combines harvesting, crafting, questing, and adventuring superbly.
Final Score: 4/5

The RTP with edits, the graphics
The developer mostly uses the RTP with edits, but everything blends together quite nicely. The island itself is quite beautiful, with well-designed mapping. The Magma Caves are well thought-out with separate passages and rooms that aren't too big or too small. Although, some passages may require harvesting tools. The title screen is custom and it sets a sort of light-hearted first impression, which is what the developer was going for. The window skin is RTP, but it's not that big of a problem. The characters are a mix between RTP and edits, like most of the mapping. Additionally, there's little to no graphic errors or mistakes.

Questing, crafting, and adventuring, the gameplay
The gameplay offers a lot to do on the island and it's definitely the reason the game was even made. It's also the game's strongest point. To begin with, questing is really fun in this game. Not only do the quests make sense and fit right in, they're well-rewarding. All but one or two of the quests are optional. Crafting is my favorite part about Iris Island. Basically, there are two harvesting skills and two crafting skills: fishing, mining, cooking, and smelting. Certain tools are required like a net or a pickaxe. Rope is also a valuable item to bring along with you if you chose to adventure into the Magma Caves. Which brings me to the last big gameplay feature, adventuring. The developer does a good job with adding a lot to do underground, where most of the adventuring takes place, and executing it. There's plenty of questing, exploring and adventuring to be had, secrets to be found, and harvesting to be done. The Magma Caves are tricky, however, and the player should be prepared to deal with puzzles and plenty of blocked passages. Additional, smaller gameplay features include the option to buy a house and to chat with the locals about their past and the island's past. To add to the praise, the gameplay is practically flawless.

The sounds of Iris Island, the music
The sounds and music of Iris Island is RTP, as far as I can tell. However, that doesn't mean that the developer didn't take good measures to include the right sounds and music in the right places. Sit and listen to the crackling fire in the inn, or listen as you walk across a wobbly underground bridge. The music is pretty pleasant to listen to and sets a certain mood that compliments the light-hearted attempt that the developer strove for.

The final judgement, the score
To close out this review, all I can say is that the developer did a really great job at making an entertaining game that strikes a perfect balance between questing, crafting, and adventuring. Although, the game isn't perfect (some of the mapping felt rushed, some gameplay becomes repetitive, and some of the writing seemed dull) I couldn't find any really big areas that needed a lot of improvement. And I can't really consider the RTP or edits a flaw or mistake, because I also use them a lot.

Your welcome. I tried to proof read it as many times as I could. But with the kind of sleep I've been getting lately, I more than likely left something out. Good luck with future projects!
